To tie this in... Kansas is my favorite band by far.

The tie? On the Leftoverture album there was a group of tidbits called "Magnum Opus"

They were originally going to nae the album Magnum Opus and the tidbits Leftoverture, but were talked into changing it around. The rest as they say is rock n roll history.

One of my favorite songs ever is "Carry On Wayward Son". Love me some Kansas...

My favorite band, though is a little band called Cross Canadian Ragweed. Up-and-coming band from Oklahoma. Great mix of Southern Rock and Country.

ALostTexan

Surprised no one mentioned Social Distortion. Mike Ness is da sh*t.

My all time favortie band.

That was the Animals with Eric Burdon who sang that song.
Oh yes. That was The Animals.
I love a lot of music from the teens thru, maybe the '80's.
Primarily Frank Zappa, Sun rockabilly, Burt Bacharach, Ramones and many, many more.
Sh-boom!

Dream Theater
Rush
Nightwish
Pink Floyd
Megadeth

I love progressive rock, if you can't tell. I just saw Megadeth (4th time) co/headline with Dream Theater (2nd time) on Gigantour and I saw Rush for the first time last year during the 30th Anniversary tour. They were all awesome live.

Great choices!

Savatage is another good prog rock band.

If you have a chance go see Trans Siberian Orchestra when they come around. Al Pitrelli is awesome!

I would rate thier concerts near the top of the list. It is Christmas music on streoids :)

I have spent a way too much time lately downloading Grateful Dead stuff from 1968 to 1972. There are hundreds of shows at the following http://www.archive.org/audio/etreelisting-...Grateful%20Dead

I have been entranced by 30 or more different versions of Dark Star, each more expansive than the last. Great tune to let the smoke curl from a Padron. Try 1969, April 21 or 22, in Boston at the ARK 64 KBs MP3 zip is good enough for most of us, but for those out of control, use VBR mp3 zip or Shorten download. Shoot, do the whole show...a different sound.

And to turn the boat around, never forget Long Island's favorite sons THE GOOD RATS

If you don't have it already you HAVE to get Grayfolded. How does an hour+ version (twice!) of Dark Star sound to you. It is a great set to own if you like the Dead.

A long list, but I can't nail it down to one band/artist or even genre.

U2
Pink Floyd
The Clash
Nick Cave and the Badseeds
Bruce Springsteen
Social Distortion
The Cure
Bauhaus
Velvet Underground
Neil Young
David Bowie
Johnny Cash
Loretta Lynn
Cowboy Junkies
Peter Tosh
Bob Marley
Otis Redding
Miles Davis (Quintet/Sextet/Nonet)
John Coltrane
Theolonius Monk

New stuff that are getting a lot of iPod time are Franz Ferdinand and Bloc Party.

Most played album on the iPod is "Kind of Blue" from the immortal Miles Davis with Coltrane, Adderly, Cobb, Chambers, and Evans. IMHO, one of the greatest masterpieces of music ever recorded. Those who have not listened to a lot of jazz, try this album. Play it in the background during dinner, while reading a book, or smoking a cigar and you'll find that you're swaying and your toes/heel tapping to the music subconciously.

edited for spelling
