Well, not really. It is however the very first cigar I've bought that is not a dutch master etc.... :whistling: I went to the local tobacco shop and was going to buy a padron 2000 mad, but they didn't have any. What they did have was a padron 5000 mad which I bought. I'm not sure of the difference between the two, I'm thinking its just the size. Well that's it for this post. I will be smoking this tomorrow or on Sunday during a bbq.

Yes, the size of the 5000 is larger than the 2000. If this is your first "real" cigar, and you are going with the 5000 Maduro, I'd suggest maybe drinking a coke with it.

I don't think they are strong, but, I'd hate for you to turn green.

Thanks, the person working there wasn't the owner, but was very helpful. We both agreed the size was the only difference, glad to know we were right. I've been given quality cigars in the past just never actually bought one myself, so do not fear I will not turn green.

You made a wise choice. Enjoy.

Thanks, I will.

In that case, like TBH said, enjoy! Padron makes some of the best cigars out there, in my opinion. Consistently great, with a price that is hard to beat, what isn't to like? :)

Since I will record every cigar I smoke from now on, I will start gauging my like and dislike of certain cigars. I'd like to participate in a newbie trade sampler, but until then I think I will try a AF Hemingway short story next. I've read it's one of the sweeter tasting cigars out there.

Short story is a go-to favourite of mine. Gave one to a buddy tonight and he liked it. He usually goes for kickass strong Nic cigars.

I'm smoking this one up right now as I post this reply. So far some spice, more than others I've smoked. Very enjoyable, too bad I can't drink. I have to drive somewhere in about an hour :(

I've been busy, but I'm back for the update. I cut off the cap, tested the draw, toasted the foot, and gave it a few puffs; I was greeted to light sweetness my first couple of draws. The sweetness was not long lasted, but was followed by a light ,but crisp spice on the lips and tongue. After the first third I had nothing but a leathery taste in my mouth with a much more bold hint of spice which faded and re-surfaced with each draw. The cigar started out burning very even until the first third, then for no reason went out of control. I countered this problem by applying saliva to the wrapper where the burning was faster, this worked perfectly. The Padron finished out very one-dimensional, and left a very strong taste in my mouth of what I recall as nicotine from my experiences with cigarettes. This could be from chewing on the cigar throughout the smoke. Well that's it for the Padron 5000. I don't see this becoming my go to, but don't let that keep you from enjoying them.

I'd appreciate all recommendation on what to try next. I would like a somewhat sweeter cigar that is quite smooth and creamy with a much mellower aftertaste.

Revisit a Padron later when you get some experience. I remember my first Padron as being strong and not all that enjoyable. Maybe 4~5 years later, after trying all sorts of brands and such, Padrons are one of my favs. I can pretty much guarantee you that the cigars you start smoking at the beginning are not what you'll be smoking later on.

That being said, if it didn't work for you, no worries. Everyone's tastes are different.

I have known a few people to chew their cigar but I never thought it was worth trying. Looks fairly disgusting. That being said, Padrons are my favorite brand aswell.

When I said chew I don't mean gnawing on the thing like a dog on a bone. I was just writing a paper at the time, so let's just say I could have kept it drier.

The problem was this, the padron was far too spongy and it also had a wind tunnel through it. I felt the cigar was burning hotter than it should and that the draw was really loose. I have some cell phone pictures of the 5000:

Edit: Someone needs to shop the Third image.

and I thought Kirstie Alley had a big crack! j/k

One thing I've learned here from other members is Padrons always have a loose draw, so smoking them takes a different approach than others.

As for chewing on them, I clench mine in my teeth when weedeating the yard or washing the car, but I try not to choose really good cigars if doing those chores.

Careful with those Short Stories. Once you begin to explore Fuente you need to get a part time job or rob banks. Check out a Bolivar and Cohiba also.
