My younger brother signed his papers, and is joining the Navy as a Corpsman. I'm so damn proud of him.

I had to share it, seeing as we have so many retired and active duty military on here. Thank God for all of you and what you do, and if you ever run across my brother (Quarto), buy him a beer for me.

Doc, any words of wisdom for the youngster, in regards to his future career? :D

Do as well as you can in Corps school. Those that graduate in the top 10% get choice of "C" schools.Pharmacist is nice (requires shipping over for two years) and so is radiology technician..Flunking out is not an option unless you want to end up in the Fleet as a deck ape. Unless he's gung ho, do not, under any circumstances ask for Field Medical service school, like I did. The Fleet Marine Force isn't for everyone. Keep in mind I've been retired for 20 yrs. Things may have changed. Except the FMF part.

He is intending to go FMF, as he wants the experience for when he eventually boots for SEALS or SWCC. He originally was going to join the Marines, but they jerked him around for the last two years about his tattoo on his neck, which he had lasered off, but because he had to obtain a special waiver form he was put on the back burner. According to his recruiter, due to the increase in people trying to join up due to the current crappy economy, they weren't hurting for people and could be picky in who they recruited. Why go through all the trouble of obtaining a special waiver form that had to be approved high up, when they could pull in someone with no such needs?

Their loss, he would have made a great Marine. He shares the same love of country and patriotism that I do, and he finally decided that rather than wait around for someone to decide whether he could serve or not, he would go a different route. He's an extremely smart and tough kid, with a ton of common sense to boot, so I have no doubt he will do extremely well. He's not gung ho, he's just very dedicated and wants to really go out and do the Lord's work, so to speak. He wants the Corpsman experience for both the medical side and the possible exposure to combat. Granted, this is based off of what he has been told/read, so I am sure it is different once in, but, it's his path he has chosen and I support him 110%.

Twenty years out is a bit, but, some things don't change with time, so I have no doubts that your experience is still something that is very valuable to someone of his current position in life.

Sounds Gung Ho to me .Reminds me of someone I know. Best of luck to him.

Doc.

Hrmm. My prior post didn't come off how I thought it did, after reading it again.

What I meant, Doc, was that you have a shitload of experience, and regardless of time, it's invaluable. With that said, if you say he sounds gung ho, well, you'd know! :D

I think he was very disrespectful Doc, and he should get his ass paddled by the headmaster!

Congratulations to Nick, he's a real good kid. Oh and Charles, stop kissing Doc's ass! :p

Great place to learn much. My choice as well. Fair winds and following seas!!!!!

Screw you, hippie!

Jon, he's likely to come down in August, hopefully in time for the herf at Gavin's. We'll have to celebrate!

God bless him & protect him

Keep us posted on his progress as we'll probably adopt him as a CP child! He'll be smoking cigars we send him with his buddies in no time!

Thanks everyone, I will be sure to tell him. :) I'm looking forward to the next four or more years of stories from him, he's doing what I wish I had done. It's a really good feeling to see your little brother growing up and going from a young kid to a man.

Well I guess this is as good a time as any to teach you the difference between a Sea Story and a Fairy Tale. A Fairy Tale always starts with, "Once upon a time". A Sea Story starts with, "This is no shit."

Got any good examples of a Sea Story?

I never told you the story about how I saved the 5th Marines from the Black Syph? This is no shit, there I was surrounded by Viet-Cong whores at the House of the Pink Chrysanthemum, a small establishment located about 20 clicks N. of Da Nang. Armed with only with a 10cc syringe loaded with penicillin G, I manged to subdue them, even though they tried to weaken me with their Oriental charms, and inject them in their tight round asses, before a patrol of Jarheads form 2/5 arrived. We then proceeded to avail ourselves of the lovely ladies company in an orderly and proficient military manner. The rest of the story ain't fit for women and kids.
