Slipping down the slippery slope of Handguns..

Tom,
Did you form a "trust" to order your silencer, or did you get your CLEO to sign off on the paperwork?

I love seeing people using their 2nd amendment rights. Group 'em tight!

Either is relatively easy for this area.

I went trust. Tom?
Haven't got that far yet....still trying to figure out who to buy it from, now that I know exactly what I want.

LFK - let's touch base over the weekend and chat. Forming a trust sounds interesting....

Tumbling down the slope now...

I've been trying to keep myself from getting a 1911 and/or a AR15. I dont "need" either one but you know that slope...that slope....

No doubt! It's a blast though... BigJake and I went shooting on Friday and had a blast. My only problem was him out shooting me!

Last 30 days have brought me a S & W Model 629 Stainless .44 Mag with a 6 1/2 bbl, a Glock Gen 4 model 23 .40 cal and a Ruger Mk II Hawkeye .300 Win Mag. Now I have been waking up in the middle of the night thinking about the Kimber .45 in the display case at the local gun shop. I handled all of the semi-autos that they have and the Kimber was truly made for me.

I bought the two kimbers above over the last two weeks and love them.. I also bought a Colt 1911 Rail Gun, as Well as a Springfield loaded. (Thanks Jake!!) My favorite is the two Kimbers though. Dont worry about all the internet hatred of them. They are amazing guns. You cant go wrong with any of the models. They also hold their value incredibly well. What model are you looking at?

Honestly a great time to get an AR right now. The "ban" hysteria has subside and major manufacturers have some awesome rifles for prices that seemed impossible 2 years ago. Many smaller companies are producing high quality rifles at rock bottom prices. Depending on what you want out of it, a rifle could easily be built in the sub $700 range or less.

I have been looking at adding an AR to the collection as well.. Any advice would be appreciated. The RIAs seem nice. Anything else I should look at? I feel pretty confident about my pistol knowledge but dont know even where to start with ARs..

Thanks for the tip Breedy!

It is the full sized longer barrel, higher capacity custom shop model. I do not recall the model initials. Walnut grips, silver slide assembly and black body (if that helps). It was purchased new by an employee and he never even fired a single round out of it. $1,099 plus sales tax sounds like a great price. It is a lot of money which is why I didn't buy it on the spot. I never read any internet hatred of Kimbers, but I have talked a few current owners and they love them. If I did buy it, it is too nice for a daily carry. I wanted to buy a .45 Glock, but with the staggered magazine, the grips are too fat to feel comfortable in my hand.

It sounds like the Super Carry, or if it had laser grips, the crimson carry. Great price at $1099, but I thought they typically have the parkerized slide and stainless body? You cant go wrong with a Kimber.

I am sure other will chime in but the first question is what do you want out of the rifle? Second, are you up for assembling part, if not all, of the rifle yourself?

For your first rifle I would say shop locally for a Stripped Lower Receiver, going rate around here at shops was like $110 for some of the name brands with others being slightly less. If you have any gun-shows locally shop around there as well, I've seen Blemished lowers in the $70-90 range. On an AR the lower receiver is the registered part, so buying local saves you the $15-30 the FFL's usually charge for out-of-state transfers and which makes shopping the internet less of a bargain.

From there its up to you, you could buy a rifle kit (everything minus the Lower Receiver) or you could piece it together. There are a ton of options out there and lots of items on the secondary market (used).

Buy PMags....lots of Pmags
