For those of you from PA

That part of the Commonwealth tends to shut down when they get dumped on by an entire inch of snow.
 
I live outside of Philly, but went to college outside of Pittsburgh. Once you get about 30 mins from Pittsburgh, it looks nothing like Pittsburgh. It becomes vast open.... hills... and nothing :| Small towns in PA that aren't directly outside of Philly or Pittsburgh, don't fit my tastes at all. I couldn't do California, PA... especially alone. I love it in Philly, and in the surrounding counties, but I couldn't live anywhere else in this state.

South East PA is where its at,
 
I guess it's because of how I grew up, but I am NOT a city person. I prefer the small towns and villages. I love the green hills and "you have to drive 30 minutes to get anywhere!" lifestyle. However, every time I go back to visit in NEPA, I realize it is not a place I would ever want to settle down. It just seems to me that as progress begets progress, and towns and cities expand, the human mentalities do not keep pace. Many I interact with up there still live like (and want it to be) it is 1990. Therefore, to me, there is nothing there. It sounds like I'm slagging on the people, which, I don't mean to be. I just find the area I'm from to be very negative. Whether I'm talking to family, friends, old teachers, cashiers at the store, restaurant employees, cops, strangers I meet at the gas station, whoever... It just seems that there is always a reason why whatever progress that is happening is bad, and everything is always someone else's fault. Could be very different in the SW corner, I don't know. All I do know is that I can't go back to my area for any length of time.
 
So to update....I think things went really well. I am expecting an offer real soon.

I have no idea what to do.

Right now the company I work for manages different entertainment facilities across the US. Right now I am a #2 on the west coast...I have a house, "friends", going through a bad break up which involves moving her out of the house and getting both our names off the deed, I love my job out here but have no chance or want to be #1 here let alone do I want to stay here forever.

Out in PA is a same type facility with multiple opportunities for growth, it would be the #1 position with a NICE bump in pay and benies....I would have to find a house, know no body in the immediate area, and the town is SMALL...in fact the whole area is. This is naturally the next progression in my career; not a hard decision there....but the area scares me as I have no idea how I would meet people and find anything to do.

I am comfortable here, but am not sure how much longer I would have to wait for the next chance to come available.
 
To me I say take the chance and roll the dice once you get into a grove on how things opperate in that SMALL town life it will feel like home in no time!

Sorry about the breakup but this another good way to look at this whole situation as you will be starting fresh on a New life!

Pro:

Job = Moving up!

Getting away from the Ex!

PA is pretty much nice people, I haven't met a fellow PA person yet in my years of travel that I didn't hit it off with.

Small towns usually mean a lower cost of living, finding a new house probably won't be hard and wont cost you a ton of money.

You'll be living near Cookie_1978 and a few other outstanding BoTL :thumbs:

PA has a lot to see and do and its cigar friendly, we also have a lot of really good beer.

PA tax is next to nothing.

Fall weather in PA is awesome!

Con:

Small towns are kinda clannish so it will take you a bit of time to break the ice, but see pro point 3 and 5...

Small towns are usually boring, then again that might be a plus point, see pro point 4.

Moving sucks (it does, no sense in hiding the fact).

PA is COLD in the winter and HOT in the summer.

You'll be moving to Steeler country :sign:

State Stores and Beverage Markets... not really a minus point, if you plan ahead.

Go for it. Shawn makes a lot of good points - The Steeler / Penguin fan thing should be moved to the positive side. On the down side, we have the Pirates. ): If and when you get to Pittsburgh, PM me and we will get together for a smoke or two.
 
Contradicting everything I previously posted... go for it. Sounds like it's time to start a new life. Financially, PA might be a better fit, too, as California is just communist and overpriced. Move to PA, buy yourself a handgun, and wear it proudly with a few dollars left to spare for rent, car payment, cigars, and beer.

Don't go over to the Scranton area, though, because that still sucks.
 
You'll be on the 'correct' side of PA, although a bit further south from the prime area. :whistling:

It will be easier than you think to meet people. In addition to Cookie, Key_Stone Raider is in the general area along with several other BOTL's. There are some good microbreweries around. And you'll be in the heart of 'The Nation'.
 
That is some great pro/con production. Thanks for the advice guys, this is what I was looking for.

I will let yall know what happens in the next few days.

PS: Can you say yall and not get shot there? What about my worst habbit I have picked up here so close to Canada; "eh?"
