Hello Gentlemen!

Well Its about that time! I need to lose weight (again). I have to cut drinking beer but I need a good alcoholic beverage complement my cigars! What do yall think I can replace beer with that is low in calories? Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Regards

Edited for grammar mistake.

lol. Maybe.. any brands you suggest? (not a big whisky drinker)
You'll need to sample around and see what you like. Scotch, Bourbon, Rum*... it's all good, imo.
My favorite Scotch is either Balvenie or Mortlach, bourbon is Blantons and rum is Havana Club (now that I can get it).

* not an all-inclusive list, btw.

Thanks! We shall see how this goes. DARN IT I'M GOING TO MISS ALL THE DRINKING FOR ST. PATTY'S DAY NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

Portion control and burning more than you're taking in is where it's all at, imo. I suck at the first, so I concentrate on the second. :)

Yeah, I'm so bad at potion control, I am spoiled from my football days. All the LBs would go out with the linemen to a buffet and destroy it! Those big boys can eat! I never have been able to eat normally. sigh... I just need to work at it I guess, my stomach feels like an empty void. lol.

Holmes is right (did I say that?). Most people have no (or limited) activity to burn calories. Me included. I suck at moderating when and how much I eat.

If you are looking for low cal, I believe I heard vodkas were lowest. I've know some girls who drank diet Coke and vodka per their weight loss systems. I would suggest a bottle of Ron Zacapa rum. If you are a big drinker, then start with the Ron and finish with some Mount Gay to keep the budget lower :)

I'd skip any mixers as they're just wasted calories.

Captain Obvious answer, too: Just stop drinking while you're smoking. calories in vs. out - every little bit counts. You're already getting to enjoy one passion (the smoke), surely you can give up the other for the same time period. :)

lol. True. I guess I just have a habit of drinking while I smoke.

Calorie wise there isn't much different....distilled spirits (run, vodka, Bourbon, Scotch) are about 97 calories a shot, Light beer is 99 or so, regular beer is about 150....so by going from regular beer to colored fizzy water (light beer) you can save some....but it really isn't significant. Like others have said, a little exercise can go a long way.

Yeah I started working out again last week, I also started eating right. I have lost 3 pounds so far and my goal is 80. ;P

I've always heard that you only want to drink clear liquors if you are watching your diet intake. Don't know the truth in that, as I never really cared for either.

I lost about 25 lbs last summer, maybe a little more. I lifted weights about an hour a day, and did absolutely zero cardio that didn't involve walking from my car to the house. He's got it correct: portion control. That's the biggest thing, and like all of you guys, what I really had a problem with. Hell, you can eat all the bad stuff you want, as long as it's in moderation and you are staying active enough to regulate those calories. People make a science out of dieting, and unless you are cutting for a bodybuilding show, it doesn't matter. Calories In VS. Calories Out. Keep the second number bigger than the first, and you lose weight.

Have a beer a day with your cigar, if you want. Once you start seeing weight come off, you may WANT to cut it out simply because you know you don't need it. Or, you may enjoy the indulgence for all your hard work. I still drank a few cans of Guinness a week, though usually on the weekends, rather than spread out throughout the week. Some weekends I'd go without, but I didn't MAKE myself not drink. If you aren't happy, you won't stick with it. Portion control when you eat. The hardest part. Good luck!

Thanks a lot! I will keep you gentlemen updated!

That mean you're out of the Wednesday night? I'll be down to one beer a week starting next week. Gotta get ready for my backup plan.

Congrats...remember it comes off easier in the beginning...need to keep it up. I started portion control, calorie counting 2 weeks ago....down 12 pounds as of today. Exercise currently consists of walking 5 miles a day (if I don't hit that in my normal daily work schedule I finish it with walks at home.
