Cigars 101: what are the best sticks and does anything rival Cuban?

Tossers and wankers! THE WHOLE LOT OF YA! ;) In Mexican Spanish slang, we call you people “culeros”

I can’t agree with this statement 100 percent, nor can I disagree with it either. I can’t bring myself to fire up an old Cohiba espléndido Bill sent my way. Because, more than likely, it’ll be an orgasmic, spiritual, 5th demension type experience that I’ll probably never have again. Unless I win the Powerball or Mega millions.

A jackpot, well made, blended new Cuban is very very good. A Cuban, well aged, is pretty phenomenal.

There are great non Cuban sticks. In my opinion, the best blend has yet to ever be created and mass produced. Wait until Cuban tobacco meets some of these people creating great non Cuban smokes. Holy schnitzel!

That is funny and probably true, although the perception I have is that top NC marcas like Fuente and Padron exceed all Cuban lines in terms of construction.

True only in terms of construction... although the 2014 cuban cigars are better in quality, consistency and construction...

Wrong! Wrong! Wrong! The cigar to recommend for 1st time smokers is Swisher Sweets, cherry flavored is the #1 seller. I still think they make those in Cuba. '98 Fundy's were true religion though. John
Sad thing is, in most of the online NC retailers their #1 sellers are that (if they sell them) or acid flavors....

What's the #1 selling car in the US?
Think it's the best? Or is it just a commodity for folks that need to get from A to B?

Same with cigars.

The Habana Colossus will never wave his oriflame over the rebels of Cameroon, Sumatra, Connecticut, or Ecuador.

Which raises the question yet again, of whether the greatest cigar imaginable is a Cuban puro.

I certainly hope "that" is set in stone... I also hope that Habanos SA can get their act together and handle the record amount of sales (with China leading the way) lately, which imo is drastically reducing the quality of their product... Thankfully, I can still find boxes from 2014 :)

What lines are holding up best, in your opinion?

I assume you are referring to the 2014 lines... I would say the staples, Montecristo, Partagas and Hoyo, and if you can find them Juan Lopez, Por Larranaga Ramon Allones and QdO.
As far as recent production, I believe you are better off with non Cubans than the 2018 lines... Poor harvest in 2016 and 2017, combined with record sales are a recipe for disaster imo...

Then I'll stick to my Don Carlos Reserves and Magnum Rs and Hemingways until conditions improve. That is truly sad news my friend.
