What SMOKING music are you listening to? (2026)

There is a difference between a favorite album you like to listen too and a favorite album that meant something to you. In 1981 nothing meant more to me then Magnets, While many of the reasons it was so impactful at that time are long gone it still has that emotional pull that reminds me of why it was so impotent at that time. It stayed with me so much that 20 years later I tracked down the band member and wrote them a letter saying how their music got me through some difficult times. They were all very kind in their replies.

While this won't help you figure me out since you have no idea what 1981-82 was like for me I hope you can enjoy it just for the music.

Live Friday

Rush, 'Exit ... Stage Left' (1981)

Their 2nd double live after 'All the World's a Stage' was taken from the Permanent Waves and Moving Pictures tours of 1980 & 81. Overall it charted well reaching #10 here, #7 in Canade and #6 in the UK. It hit Platinium sales by the end of 1982. The album is not in any real chronological order with side 2 being from the Permanent Waves tour and the other 3 sideds from various Moving Pictures shows. Nor was it totally live with songs from different shows spliced together and some additional studio input. The original CD release omitted "A Passage to Bangkok" but the 1997 remaster managed to squeeze it in due to a time increase on the CD.

The one bit of trivia for this album is that the title is taken from Snagglepuss' line "Exit Stage Left".

My Mom took me to this concert when I was 10.
How many people were able to see the King live? 😁

Happy Heavenly Birthday Mom!!! 🥳
