Okay Someone tell me I'm wrong.

I just lit my 4th out of 5 H Upmann 1844 Reserve cigars I have, and the cap started to unravel as soon as I cut it. not a deep cut, a dime thickness just like every other cigar. I don't have much hope but the other 3 that have smoked before this were really tight draws and really didn't have much flavor. Am I missing something from H.. Upmann cigars or are they just bad? These are in the same humidor as every other cigar smoke for the last 3 months and every other cigar has been fine.

This isn't even yard gar worthy.

Give me a reason go try another from this maker.

This is why the general cigar altidas types dont get much love and why they sometimes have ajf come in and do a fluff job on them. I'm not saying they are dog rockets or dog rockets are limited to them but that's just the way it seems IMHO.

LoL You're not giving me much of a reason for not throwing away the other cigar I've got.

I find that if I move cigars from one level of humidity to another, I need to rest them for a week or 2 or even longer before they are ready to smoke. Sometimes dry boxing speeds up the process but of cigars are too “humid” they burn hot, have little flavor if at all and draw tight where even a PerfecDraw cannot do the trick. Conversely, too dry which is less common for me, and they have zero resistance when you draw on them (anlmost like trying to draw a burning leaf pile through an 2”PVC pipe) and also have no flavor.
I put humidity in quotations because it could still be within acceptable humidity levels and still come off as too humid when you move a stick from one level to another. If I take a cigar from a bag with a 69% boveda pouch and put it in my desk top that’s at 62%, it’s not going to smoke well until it adjusts.
 
I bought a fiver of these (brown label) and had the exact same experience with the first two. The other 3 are in a tupperdore of stuff I mostly don’t plan to smoke. They were absolutely terrible. I have a single of the AJ collab (blue label) yet to try - we’ll see how that one is after a bit more rest.

I do not have any recent experience with the 1844 Reserve, however, the H Upmann Vintage Cameroon corona size have been a solid cigar for me personally.
 
If I find a clunker, I know I won’t enjoy…..It’s pitched, my time and cigar enjoyment are too precious. I have become more calculating on what I buy and in what quantities.

....also, don't forget that some vendors over humidify the living crap out of their cigars. Why..?? I had one tell me they figure they were doing to customer a favor; he said "....lots of people don't have humidors, so this will keep them fresh longer...".
 
I will add that for me the sample size for any stick would be 3 maybe 5 min....maybe more. These are handmade products but like above once one starts misbehaving its time to cut losses. If that becomes a pattern you have to make a decision.

This is why hunting for well regarded 5r's on sale is the smart way to develop your on hand stock and box/bundle purchases
