With the recent unfortunate break in the action we just had I think now would be a good time for contemplate posting habits and for me to give some of you guys some helpful hints. I could say it in two words:


Post less.


Do you have more than 1.9 posts per day? You, my dear brother, are a post whore.

Are you answering questions no one is asking?

Are you asking questions about which no one wants answers?

Are you writing a lot of things that only beer could make interesting?

Do you have a point? Let me remind you of the immortal words of Steve Martin's character, Neal, in Planes, Trains, and Automobiles:
You know everything is not an anecdote. You have to discriminate. You choose things that are funny or mildly amusing or interesting. You're a miracle! Your stories have NONE of that. They're not even amusing ACCIDENTALLY! ... It's like going on a date with a Chatty Cathy doll. I expect you have a little string on your chest, you know, that I pull out and have to snap back. Except I wouldn't pull it out and snap it back - you would. Agh! Agh! Agh! Agh! And by the way, you know, when you're telling these little stories? Here's a good idea - have a POINT. It makes it SO much more interesting for the listener!

Does any of this ring true for you? Probably not. Maybe ask someone--- especially if you are sure none of this applies to you. I am not saying, "Go away." I love you. Really. Just post something interesting or informative. Maybe if you are unsure preview your post and read it about six times before you hit the Post New Topic or Add Reply button. Remember "Less is More" and futhermore "None is Even Better" in many cases. Perhaps I am alone in not feeling the need to wade through three pages of new posts each day. I don't think so.

May I make a suggestion?

I'd like to see less newb topics that make no sense and do nothing but pad your posts and make it look like your attempting to contribute to the board.

Since I post little and read a whole lot here's a something you may want to think about before posting something like this. You are #84 on the list of top posters on this site, which has 2745 members. That means you post more than 2661 members, which would be the top 3% of people posting if my math is correct.
Just my 2 cents.

Perhaps it's because he has 1.9 posts per day? And Alexgtp,why do you have your thumbs up? Your in the top 10 today, as am I, much to my chagrin. And why the hell should it matter? We all have friends that talk too much and can't shut up. That's life. Some days I feel like talking more than others. Today was one of those days. To disparage a BOTL for posting too much is just nonsense in my opinion.

I don't think Tommy is meaning to step on anybody's toes. I think his point is to 1) utilize the search, 2) make sure your joke makes more than just you laugh, 3) say something useful or don't say much at all. With all the ass-hattery going on lately, a lot of it could have been avoided by newb's keeping their keyboards quiet. Tommy definitely wasn't targeting some of the older FOG's, he's too sweet, for guys like you, you have so many posts because you've done so many trades, gifting, passing, splitting, and kicking ass-hats in the ass, that you have earned your post counts. And AVB, you've just had a lot to drink and have been very informative about what to enjoy and what to avoid when it comes to drinks, esp. scotch, and that my friend is a good thing.
 
I will speak up. I enjoy reading others words of wisdom. It might not be great words of wisdom, but it is a great way to past the time. To all that post I thank you, if it was not for you I would need to listen to my wife and fix things around the house.

Thats what a forum is for. For ppl to post. Some of it meaningful some it funny..some of it useless..If he does not like it He can go over to other forums that have about 1 new topic per day!

Nothing really to add to this thread, I just have a mere .88 posts per day, so I figured I need to start whoring myself.
 
I can never understand this posting less concept. Isn't that what forums are for, posting? The people who think less posts the better should try staring at a blank wall, I'm sure that would be awesome for you, but as for me I would like it if everyone here posted a hell of a lot more.
