Hey there, This will be my first post on the forum (besides my intro).

The questioin is, how do you other Canadians buy your cigars?
Do you buy in canada and risk paying 10X more then in the states?
Do you buy from online websites and pay a billion in border taxes?
Or do you buy from a friendly online accomplice that sends cigars over the border as a "gift"?

Recently i bought Cigars off of Holts.com. It is a great website, very easy to use and fabulous prices. My package arrived yesterday with border taxes reaching $165.00 CAD, when all i spent on the website was $76.00. I expected to pay maybe 30% in fee's, but i NEVER would have guessed that they charged upwards of 250%. So, i was forced to refuse the package, and Holts was kind enough to refund my money.

So, What other options do i have? Im not into paying 15-50 bucks a stick here in canada. But, i also can't affored to pay tobacco border fees.

I best choice that i can think of, would be to have a friend in the US who would buy the cigars (be it from a local shop or online) Then ship the cigars into canada as a "gift" (after paying them of coarse.)

So, I'm curious, what do you guys do?

Thanks!

I’m going to go with C. Regis, and that’s my final answer. I doubt too many folk actually pay the massive tax. As far as sources that’s something you’ll need to do some digging into since its not really proper form to share them.

maybe the good news is that conservatives dominated your last election. Maybe they'll undo some of the damage done by the socialists.

Wait a tick, an American who knows somthing about Canadian politics? I applaud you.:)

My guess is the best bet would be to find someone in a near by state, get them to order the product online, then have them ship it to canada. Is this a safe way to avoid border fee's? or is there some catch to it.

I think that if the American ticked it off as a gift, and sends it as if it is a gift, everything would be ok.
But i have never tried, so i wouldn't know for sure.

If you have a friend who can send them from the US, mark them repaired "whatever" and you avoid the several of the problems. I have done this many times and it has always worked.

Was big brother listening! ???

sounds fairely reliable.ill have to give that a try one day. I'm jsut wondering if they did happen to check what it was inside, if I'd be in double trouble for lying..

"Dominate" is hardly the word. They got a MINORITY government which means if they decide to do anything even remotely radical, the so called "socialist" parties could team up and vote the government down which would force another election. This will most likely happen next winter.

I do 99% of my shopping out of country and take advantage of the 50 cigar/pp limit. One trip to Florida equals 100 Fuentes duty free (Wife and I) and one trip to Varadero equals 100 duty free Habanos. I also use Mules from time to time, especially for Florida... call Holt's, JR, Metro or TampaSweethearts and get them to ship right to Mule's address...makes it real easy for them. Taxes on a cigar in Canada is about 200-250%... Health care isn't free after all!

getting someone thats going on vacation in Cuba or Florida to buy you some cigars.

I have the same problem. If I want to buy a couple single ISOMS, I will go to my B&M and just let them bend me over. If I need to buy a box of anything, there are ways to get it here without paying the tax. Whether it be from the states or Europe, it always gets to me safe and sound.

"there are ways to get it here without paying the tax"
What are your ways of doing this?

I'd liek to try it with somthing cheap, so i dont get too screwed. Something like a box of Don Diego Babies. Which i acctaully like, there mild, consistant, and very cheap.
