I've seen alot of people on the cigar boards cutting up Macanudos. I'm just wondering why they are the top selling cigar in America if there is such a loathing of this cigar by cigar smokers? I could understand if they were dirt cheap but they're not that inexpensive. Something doesn't add up.

I have never had a macanudo so I'm totally in the dark here, just curious.

Thoughts?

I love them(Cafe line), one of my favorite cigars, I've never had a bad one. My guess is I may be the only person here with this opinion but I like it this way because I never have to fight to find them! My guess is they are popular because they use quality tobacco, are very consistent and are on the mild side.

I started off with the tins available at almost any drug store in the area and then moved to the Portofino from the cigar girl roaming the casino floor out in Vegas, $20+tip, yikes!. Macanudo is what really got me in to cigars. Easy to find, easy to smoke, easy on the wallet. However, as I developed the hobby and tried more complex cigars they became just a little too mild for me. I would still smoke one if offered.

I like the Maduro's..they are a solid go to stick for the $

I enjoy Macanudos, sometimes I do like a milder cigar. But, I can usually find a better cigar for the money.

Budweiser is a "top selling" beer too. It doesn't mean it's any good though.....

I don't like the taste of them at all, they're too mild for me, they're too pricey for what they are, their burn and construction is no better than cigars that cost less than half of what you pay for these.

Go try one but personally, I would not waste your money on these.

do you and your buddies go around bragging about the the toyota sentra? probably not, although it was the #1 selling car in the us last year. what macanudo lacks in taste they make up in marketing. its the cigars thats at every golf course, every resturant and most grocerie stores. their targeted demographic is probably mostly made up of guys who smoke 6 cigars a year.

My favorite selling tool for Macanudo is that "Everybody knows somebody that smokes a Macanudo." For most everyone I know Macanudo are too mild & don't have the flavor that they are looking for.

I personally believe they are a top seller because they have a sense of tradition attached to them. My grandfather smokes these and my father (still does), and it was one of my first smokes.

I have absolutely have no use for Macanudo's. They suck, they always have sucked, and I expect, always will suck.

Doc.

Sounds alot like my dad and my family. They were probably one of my first smokes as well but now they hold more of a nostalgic value for me than anything else. I will have to say for some god awful reason my dad just thinks they are the greatest thing out there.....and hes SEEN Outlaws Padron Wall!

I'm still at a loss as to what the hell hes thing....other than hes CHEAP!

This is probabaly the most accurate answer. They make a cigar that pleases the comman, average cigar smoker. That doesnt make them best, or even good. If I had a choice between Bud Light and water, I'd take the water :D

Cheap? my regular line Padrons cost less than my Macs.

I don't get the Bud or Toyota comments simply because Macs are priced similar to a lot other popular brands like Fuentes, Padrons, Cuesta Rey and CAO... If BMWs were $15K or Stella was $0.75/bottle then maybe those points would be valid.

That doesn't really address my question though....
To answer your question::
Frank Zappa one said,"most people wouldn't know good music if it bit them in the ass." Well, the same could be said about cigars.

Doc.

Let me clarify my post...

My dad has seen Macanudos around for a long time because hes well old. The price increase he sees is fine, due to being around for a while.

I guess it's not he's cheap as much as he doesn't want to try to trust any other brands. He's had a punch and nearly died when he saw some prices of punches. He's OLD SCHOOL!

Rum runners and swisher sweets!!!!!!!!

To him a Macanudo is a CELEBRATION CIGAR, whereas to most of us its not anything spectacular.
