I don't think he took the name Kinky until he started his band "Kinky Friedman and the Texas Jewboys" Who can forget such songs as "Asshole from El Paso", "Get Your Biscuits In The Oven and Your Buns In Bed" and "They Ain't Makin' Jews Like Jesus Anymore." While the titles may not show it, there is a strong social commentary in much of his music.
Like another non-texan who was elected Governor, Kinky wasn't born in the state but has lived there since early childhood.
