So I received my Johnson A19 temperature controller on Friday, and my Avanti 28 bottle wine chiller on Saturday, and decided to hook them up today. (Being an electronics tech for an Inverter company) I apparently, had either not had enough sleep, or not enough coffee this morning to make sense of the schematic that Johnson Controls provide with their controller. "Seeing as it is the best schematic I have ever seen in my life!" So I thought I would provide a simple run down on how to hook it up. This is assuming you have purchased the un-wired version as I have.

Since we are dealing with cooling only, lets do it this way:

We will be dealing with three colors. White, Black and Green, and assuming you cut a three line extension cord in half as I did for your connections.

Place the cord with the female end into the connector, and connect the black wire onto the "Close on temp increase" terminal, it's the one with the yellow dot by it. Place the other cord into the controller and connect the black wire onto the "common" terminal, it's the one with the red dot by it. Take a wire nut and tie the 2 white, or neutral wires together. You should have a ground screw on the controller case itself, and this is where you tie the 2 green wire's together. Plug the fridge into the female pigtail and plug the male end into your power outlet.

I hope this helps the other BsOTL with common brain lapses like myself. And a big thanks goes out to gandolf565 who helped me wrap my brain around it on an off day!!

Where did you find the 28 bottle avanti wine cooler? I have been having trouble locating them on the intarweb.

Oh, and thanks for the great write up I can't wait to do this myself.

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner on the unit xRanger - I bought a pre-wired one anyhow, so I would have had no idea how to help you.

bfeeder, I bought my Avanti on Ebay, they also have them on wineenthusiast.com

Also bought mine on Ebay. If you can, try and get a scratch n dent! I saved about $100.00 on mine that way.

No problem, we got it figured out. For some reason, I just couldn't wrap my head around it yesterday morning! :)

What's the deal with the Avanti 28 bottle wine cooler? Is this one better than the others because of a certain feature?

There are 3 ebay listings, with 2 in each listing, for the Avanti 28 bottle scratch & dent @$99 plus $49 shipping.

Ebay Link

I haven't bought anything from this place, just passing along the the info.

Might have to look into something to keep the temp down, getting pretty warm around here lately.

Affordable for the size, and its also Thermoelctric which cuts down on the moisture possibility from a standard fridge.

You betcha! Also, when working with DC, I usually dont break the live circuit first. Unfortunatly, I didnt do it working with Ac on Sunday! Why would I want to do a thing like that?

I have not seen my wife that hard in a couple months when I completed an AC circuit with my right pinky!! Damn arm went numb up to the elbow. Probably all the metal in it......

LOL! No wonder you were having problems, you rewired your synapses

A few years ago I was building a power supply in the basement and reversed an electrolytic cap. It went BANG and blew it's guts all over the place. A half second later I heard my wife running across the floor above me saying "I knew you were going to kill yourself messing with that stuff!".

I survived :)

Remember the secret to electronics is that all components work on smoke. If you let too much smoke out they stop working.

edit to add the "Smoke Theory"
