Things are going to get interesting around here pretty soon.

First thing the guy does is call a press conference and announce he is going to make sure a 100% smoking ban is in place within 2 years.

At the moment the "Bund" (federal government) controls the smoking laws, but Merkel wants to turn the smoking laws over to the states.

Well as soon as she does... WHAM!

I talked to my bar-owner (who is also a cigar smoker) last night and he said if it passes hes turning the Parkcafe into a private club and will install a humidor.

lol I've been trying to get him to do that for years. :p

This is ridiculous in Germany. You can smoke anywhere and everywhere there.

This will not go over well at all.

I guess things have REALLY changed since I left in '98 (stationed in Wuerzburg from '92-'98). My wife and I would only go out to dinner if we could get there early.....otherwise the smoke was so dense you couldn't even see through the fog.....

I really don't see the older generation taking this too well; they really hate gov't (state or federal) getting into their business. They mostly feel the gov't controls too much already.

I still keep in contact with many of my German Friends; not many of them like the way the EU is turning out.

:(

What I orginially thought was just an isolated movement in the nanny-state, liberal areas of the US is apparently a world-wide epidemic. :0

Unreal....

Yes it is turning out that way, the EU just outlawed tobacco related advertisments a few weeks ago.

Smokers don't have rights didn't ya know...

Sounds like the guy has too much time on his hands. Maybe they should feed him some real world issues to deal with.

There in for a rude awakening I bet. Especially since German cigarettes are a huge export.
