For my last 2 years in the Navy, I was on a comm tiger team riding various boats, many from foreign navies. Of German, Japanese, English, Aussie, Canadian, and many others, only the Turks and the Americans banned alcohol aboard. I was considered a senior NCO aboard the Brit and Aussie boats, so got to bunk with the "chiefs". They got to pop a top any time they felt like it. The aussie boat had a locker, about 18 inches square and 6 feet long, refrigerated, that was full of Foster's oil cans. The Japanese doled out a saki ration on occasion.
