I'd like to see some classical recommendations Doc. I've found it a tough genre to search out. Here's a few currently in my iTunes:

Carmina Burana
Agnus Dei - Barber
Pavane - Faure
Last: The Lonely Shepard - Zamfir
Moonlight Sonata - Beethoven
Canon in D - Pachabel
La Valse d'Amelie - Tiersen

I always found it interesting that most often, when I run into folks I went to high school with, they STILL listened to the same "stuff" we did back in the 70's. Have to agree; there is so much great new stuff....

Try anything by Bartok. Bartok is God. You might find him slightly inaccessible but give him time. listen for the middle European folk themes and how he composes around them. I really don't know anything about classical music but I know what I like. ;)

All music is serious IMHO. It doesnt matter what form it travels in. I took a Music Appreciation and loved the class. We covered from the 17th Century to current. I've found my taste in music changes as I age. Always have loved all forms of music. Except I dont care for Rap or the so called new country music. I can listen to it if I have too. I've been on a 2+ year kick of Russian music. Sad I dont speak Russian but it just shows you dont need to understand it to appreciate it.

All good stuff here, good discussion too.

I'm a huge "Music" fan and own everything from 50cent - every Metallica song made - Mozart - Hank Williams Sr. - Musicals (PoTO) - techno and dance. So every suggestion, be it oldies or newbies is a good one for me.

As a matter a fact I prefer all the differing opinions, they all fit ok in my iPod.

Yeah, iTunes sucks though, but it's all I have.

They actually did a remake of this song to honor Sgt. Andrew Farrar, Jr., USMC who was killed in action in Iraq on his 21st birthday, January 28, 2005. They also did a song called "Last Letter Home" in his honor also on "Warrior's Code."

My daughter used to play the flute in the High School band, and she had an amazing natural talent for it. One Christmas Concert they played this and I still get chills when I hear the song. The middle part with the flutes "talking back and forth" was done by my daughter and her best friend.

Two months after that, I had the pleasure of escorting my daughter to her first rock concert. Who'd we go see??

No offense to Jethro Tull, but I still can't believe they took the first ever Grammy for Best Heavy Metal Album over Metallica's Black Album.

That has never set right with me, hehe.
