Kids these days, you feed ‘em, put clothes on their back, send ‘em to school and hope they learn something. But they never turn out the way you expect,

… sometimes they turn out better.

As it turns out, at 17 my son is well on his way to becoming the man I’ve always hoped to be. Matthew’s heart is all about serving others. He is determined to be a Surgeon in the US Army but he has no intention of waiting until then to give someone else a chance at a better life. Matthew is currently training to run a marathon to raise money for Leukemia & Lymphoma research. What motivates him? Only he can answer that but this much I know, there’s a beautiful young ‘Princess’ who is very dear to our family and who has been afflicted with Lymphoma. ‘Princess’ Brittany has been so strong and beautiful that she has become Matthew’s hero.

Dear family and friends,

Every five minutes, someone in the U.S. is diagnosed with a blood cancer, and every nine minutes someone dies from it. Now let’s not just breeze past that, stop for a moment and put a face to that statistic. It’s likely we all have someone in our lives or know of someone who suffers this burden. A cherished friend, a parent, loved ones child, a sister or brother… gone. I have decided that it’s time for me to do something about it. I’ve paired up with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to do my part in the fight against cancer.

I have joined team in training (TNT), a nationwide effort to raise money and awareness to benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. I am training to run the White Rock Marathon in Dallas, Texas on December 10, 2006. That’s 13.1 crazy long miles, especially for a guy like me!

More than 75% of my personal goal of $2500 (which I hope to exceed) will go to research, patient services, advocacy & education! NO DONATION IS TOO GREAT OR TOO SMALL… every bit counts! Best of luck to Matthew, although I suspect he doesn't need much luck, as he has a higher beeing looking after him.

Really! He stops and gives homeless people food and money, he goes on fasts to raise money for World Vision, he does VBS for Inner City kids...What next??? :0 I hope you know, Michael - I better not find him chained to a tree protesting!!! He really is starting to remind me of a liberal... :whistling:

My mother passed away 4 years ago after battling Hodgkins Disease for about 10 years.

I'm not exactly up to date on CP but I've been told a lot of your posts by my parents. I think I speak for the whole Beach family when I say we can't wait for your safe return and all of the 589th! Hope to light one (or a few ;) ) when we meet up and have one hell of a herf :cool: ! Mike has saved some of the Operation Iraqi Freedom cigars and I'm sure he's got some other suprises up his sleeve! He wanted me to apologize that he hasn't been able to PM you back yet (it's the end of the property tax season) he is swamped at work and hasn't had time to get on CP, much less respond to anything. Hope all is well with you and take care.

The race has come and gone. With precious little training Matthew finished the 13.1 mile race in 2 hours and 24 minutes.

Together with you, Matthew raised just over his goal of $1600 in donations for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and for his honored hero Brittany Hilt! We all thank those of you who supported Matt with your prayers, encouragement, and donations. You're all heros!
