Why is it every Cohiba I have smoked has had a very very bad draw. Seems as if the cigars are rolled way to tight, and I find myself struggling when puffing. Anyone else experience this? Cohiba never has been a brand I find enjoyable to smoke, yet I hear of so many people who love them. Would like to hear your thoughts...

:0 Were they all from the same box?

I've only had a handful myself but they've drawn very well.

A box of of Els that belongs to my brother has a lot of tightly wrapped cigars in it though.

Hate to hear you had so many bad cigars from this brand. ;)

I've only had a couple of bad experiences with Cohibas. No more than any other brand. Maybe you just got bad luck with em ;)

I've only had one Cohiba, and the draw was very tight. Thankfully I had The Draw Poker around and it fix it.

This appears to be a problem with the 05 production. I have not
found this to be the case with any sticks that are older.

Store them at a lower humidity, 65% max... I had a Cohiba Siglo II the other day that had a fantastic draw and taste.

I store mine at 65% and dry box them for at least an hour before smoking.

So far *knock on wood* I've never had a draw problem.

And Michal last week I had to throw out a semi-rare cigar, I was really looking forward to, because it was plugged up solid.

My draw-poker is now in the mail headed my way.

My last one from '05 had a terrible draw. So I tossed it half-way and grabbed one from'01 that drew like a dream.

Interesting - I'd have expected the exact opposite to be true.

It might help to know which vitola you're talking about. Thinner cigars are more susceptible to tightness. The notion of lowering your humidity to 65% or lower is a good one if you haven't already done it.

Hy experience with Cohiba has been no worse than with any other marca, I'd guess. The middle gauge cigars have performed marginally better than the thick (Sig VI) and thin (Lanceros). The exception is the Exquisito, which has always been great drawise.

The guys are giving some great advice.

1. Store at 65% or lower.
2. Let age do its magic.
3. If you do drybox, just before you smoke, you might try passing the cigar quickly under a gentle stream of water (filtered is best if you have a highly chlorinated municipal source) to "freshen" the wrapper.

I haven't had any issues with Cohiba specifically other than the lanceros. I'd definitely recommend Moki's advice of 65% and even go one step further and "dry box" for a few days prior to smoking. Usually does the trick for me on tight smokes.

:) I am right there with you Rod. I am not a big fan of Cohiba and never have been. Grant it I have not sampled hundreds of them so I am not an expert but I have just had ok experiencxes.

The solid advice on humidity matches my experiences as well.

I've had the same issue with most every ISOM, one time or another, as you're having with the Cohiba's. I had a cab of PLPC's I thought I was going to have to chuck...they were all "plugged" and no fun to smoke.

On the advice of a member here, I've been running my coolers at around 65%, and my smoking desktop 60-62%. The difference is like night and day. All smokes, ISOM and non-ISOM smoke far, far better (for me and my tastes, anyway) and plugged or hard to draw smokes are almost a thing of the past.

At least one guy on these boards I've talked to runs his cabinet between 58% and 60%. I think there's something to that....

Rod,

That is the exact experience I referenced in a thread about 2 weeks ago. With the number of Cohibas I have smoked being counted on one hand, I can say that the number of Cohibas I have struggled to finish would be the same. My last was a Siglo IV. It hurt my thick cheeks to draw on it. I will always smoke a gift, but will always keep in the back of my mind, "Sure wish they would have brought me a Power Ranger instead."

One of my favorite cigars is a Cuban that is 5 x 39 and they are notorious for draw problems. After a while, you can tell which ones are gonna cause problems by feeling them first. If they are too hard I age them longer which usually does the trick, also lowering humidity helps.

You have to remember that the Cubans draw test their cigars pre-wrapper, so it's still not a perfect science.

I have had this 'problem' with some cuban, particularly cohibas,
Rod, and was told it was just a different approach to construction. If you just kind of 'zen' it out you and make a mental adjustment you can still find these enjoyable. Yes, tighter draw, less volume of smoke, but still very enjoyable, a different smoking experience. Relax and soak it up for what it is.
