Did anyone else get this email:

Bulldog Replacements Short Story

Another winner from the makers of Bulldog Replacements. The NEW Short Story cigars is a tasty replacement for the Fuente Hemmingway Cigar at only a fraction of the cost. Made with a beautiful Cameroon wrapper and all Dominican Binder and Long Filler. These cigar have been selling in our store location for the past 2 months and our customers ABSOLUTELY love them. In fact, we have actually had people who have been buying the Fuente Short Story and Signature, switch to our Bulldog Short Story. You just can't tell the difference and ours are a much better deal. These new Short Story are unbanded and so are the bundles.

We have seen Hemi rip offs come and go. There spam even had a box of Hemi Sigs in the email.

Any ever tried these or deal with this vendor before????

Outside of their questionable marketing efforts, my guess is that it is highly unlike these are suitable replacement for real Hemis

There is not mention on their site as to who makes them. I am sure who ever does is not using near the quality or aged tobacco Fuente uses.

Wouldnt that size be considered more of a medium length story? Why market it as a replacement for the short story and make it so much longer?
Good question. Although I doubt that these taste like Short Stories, you never know, they might be okay. My buddy in Tampa visited me earlier this year and gifted me with what a shop told him were short story replacements and although they were definitely not replacements, they were still quite good. I would be very intrigued to try one, just for the hell of it.

The least they could do would be to spell HEMINGWAY correctly!
Lol.

My only suggestion is to try a fiver and report back to us. Worst case you are out 12 bucks and have a few dog rockets sitting around.

For the price though, I would rather spend the extra 50ish bucks and buy the real thing.

With shipping, a 5er of the replacement is 17.28 (3.54 ea). You can get the real deal at Famous Smoke Shop for 25.90 shipping included (5.18 ea). For the extra $1.60 or so, why buy anything but the real deal?

These clowns are riding the skirt tail of the Fuente's and its a blatent rip off to associate the Short Story name like that. I suspect they'll be getting letters from the lawyers very soon.

I wouldn't smoke one if it was free. They need to try standing on their own two feet instead of trying to associate their cigar with a fuente SS.

The best "Replacement" for Hemingway cigars is probably the Don Tomas Cameroon (IMO) but they are just that, a replacement. Definetly not the real thing though.

There are far stronger legal minds than mine around here -heck, I've never once stayed at a Holiday Inn Express even, but I think the word "replacement" may be akin to "Alternative to." Don't like it, but it may be defensible.

I don't see any difference between what they are doing and what JR does with his alternative line. I think it is typical of business to try and profit off other products fame. The same thing goes on with politicans riding coat tails of others. I am afraid it is sad but true. JMHO!

I agree. Even though I love Fuente products, there's nothing wrong, illegal, or even borderline bad with the "replacement" strategy from another company. If anything, it's a compliment to Fuente that they have a product worth replicating.

Just think, all those no-name brand ink cartridges, cereals, and generic drugs out there. By going with a generic brand you take the risk with quality and flavor in a very direct way since cigars are actually stuck in our mouths and tasted. Cigars are an extremely brand sensitive market.

Sure, but they shouldn't be calling them "Short Story" cigars -- that would be a trademark of Fuente.

Not a one of those no-name brand ink cartridges, cereals, and generic drugs out there take on the name of another trademark product. Let one of those no name cereals put a picture of Tony the Tiger on the box.... Maybe an ink cartridge use the HP name or howabout a generic drug use the name Viagra.... see what happens. Their butts will be in court so fast they'd still have a hard on. ;)

I'm betting they either pull them, change the name, or end up in court.
