Thanksgiving day for me growing up used to me dinner at my grandparents house. However, in the last 10 years or so, the family has grown so much in size, that my grandparents house no longer accomodates the family. So, needless to say, smaller dinners started sprouting out at everybodys individual house.
This year, I decided to invite my parents and sister over for dinner. My mom asked if I could also invite my grandfather as well, even though he always eats at my aunts house, just to be nice. No problem I said. So I call him, and as expected, he says thanks for the invite, but he already has plans to go to my aunts. And in fact, my aunt is hosting my aunt and uncle from Georgia as well. Problem is, the aunt that lives near me was not privy to this information and made plans to go out of town.
So, since I invited my grandfather already, I am now hosting my aunt and uncle from Georgia as well. But, it turns out, it is not just them coming in to town...it is them, my four cousins and their spouses, and their combined seven kids. So, my small dinner has grown from about seven people to almost three dozen.
I always remember from my younger days that when you ask ten people to a keg party that twenty show up....who knew the same principles applied to Thanksgiving dinner?
