Just some info for those who use prescription drugs. I always thought the high cost of drugs was because of the big drug companys, and that the drugstores played a minor part (they claim they only mark up a small percent, they blame the big drug companys for high costs) how wrong I was (at least for the drugs I take).

Target stores are now offering some generic drugs at $4 for a months supply.

For my 4 drugs I am currently paying $97 at drugstore.com (which I found to be the least expensive) for a 3 month supply. At Walgreens it would be over $160... at Target it will be $56.00.

One example is Warfarin 5mg at drugstore.com is $34.99 for 90, Walgreens is $41.. Target will be $12

In Wisconsin there is a minimum markup law for drugs, so any drug that Target sells at $4 it is selling at more than cost (so its not a loss leader), so Walgreens is buying Warfarin for less than $12 and selling for $41. There is another drug I take that costs $61 at Walgreens and will be $12 when I switch to Target.

So, at least for generics, it is the drugstores who appear to play a big part of the high cost of drugs.

I've been digging in to the prescription deals also. I'm doing Walgreen's mail order right now. I'll have to check out Target.

Anyone tried those great email deals from India for $12 per years supply of whatever

A guy here at work does that. He does not go to a doctor, he just looks up what he thinks is wrong with himself and orders the drugs to match.

Needless to say his health is not the best.

We expect him to die one of these days from a bad reaction.

I depend on 4 presriptions taken daily to keep me alive. I will have to take these the rest of my life. Two for heart desease two for prostate cancer. I don't want to gamble on some generic or forign made drug. My co-pay is only $20 each, I will stick with what I know works. By the way CC your lucky, then again your young according to your profile!

I have two in-laws that are pharmacists and I have a bit of experience myself, and we all agree that generic drugs should not be prescribed for life threatening disease. The quality control just isn't there.

Doc.

People have been known to lie in their profiles.

I new that you are not that young CC! However you are still lucky you do not need to take anything yet. Notice I said yet.
