I check on the weekly special once in a while, and Lew states that JR Cigars will be clearing out stocks of different brands because of the end of the embargo, which he suspects will be soon. Now i know that he owns brands that are both cuban and non cuban, so maybe he knows something we are not privy to. Check out the description for the weekly special for yourself and see what you think. ???
 
I saw that yesterday and found it curious.

They are probably betting that Castro will kick the bucket and that will be the end of the embargo. I am not so sure about that myself. Some pretty big changes will have to take place before the embargo is lifted.

Probably some marketing hype more than anything.

But what I can't figure out is how that's good hype? I mean, if I knew that the embargo was about to end, I wouldn't be buying anything NC in order to make room for the Habanos. And that definitely wouldn't be good for JR's business. Not that I can see, anyhow.

Just think of the shortage of all those Dominican and Honduran smokes that the embargo lift will cause. Store shelves will be full of overpriced Cubans and nothing else. Better stock while you can!

Hmm. You are right, that does not sound like a very good way to sell smokes.
 
I already have my game plan....I'm gonna buy up every Tatuaje there is when they become devalued and everyone else is distracted. :D

Why would you think that there would be a shortage of domestic cigars? The manufacturers are not going to quit making the cigars. They have a huge investment in their fields, and factories not to mention their rollers and their employees who raise the tobacco. I have heard that several manufacturers are welcoming the thought of having access to Cuban tobacco. They are already planning to blend Cuban tobacco with their current supplies of domestic tobacco, increasing the number of cigar lines they can offer.

Not everyone thinks that Cuban cigars are the best cigars. I certainly don't. I have been very disappointed in the Cubans that I have smoked.

I look forward to trying some cigars with Cuban tobacco in the blend. But that's about as far as I'll go.

I'm going to set up a tent right outside of Pepin's cigar factory in Miami. It's gonna be like Black Friday, cigar style.

I'm not a big fan of Cubans either, except for Vida Guerra.

No, seriously, they aren't the best to me and while they are good smokes, there are plenty of NCs that I find are very comparable in flavors and quality that are easier to obtain at a local B&M. Herfin Bigdog does bring up a good point about blends containing Cuban tobacco, I am also curious as to how many new cigars will come out from NC companies containing tobacco from another country that has been "off limits" for 40 + years.
 
You all have a better chance of going to the moon next year than the "embargo" being lifted anytime in the near future.

I think Lew just likes to give people something to yak about and keep traffic coming to his site which I think is an excellent marketing strategy but I'm not biting.....
