On this day in 1974 President Richard Nixon refused to hand over tape recordings and documents that had been subpoenaed by the Senate Watergate Committee. Marking the beginning of the end of his Presidency; Nixon would resign from office in disgrace eight months later.

On this day in 1974 I was a young field arty LT sitting somewhere in the world with enough "stuff" to take out most of Russia. It was the 'wonderful' days of the cold war. Vietnam was still hot and many of the guys I was with use to take R&R in Baghadad. Go figure.
