Get Your Passport!

Another little tidbit of information is that you can request double the pages inside the passport for the same amount of money. Can come in handy if you travel to countries that require a visa to enter.Three years ago I was on a safari in Africa and filled up 8 pages of my passport with visa stamps from various countries.

You can go online and fill out the forms get your photos and then head to the post office minors under 18 need to be with an adult.

The person I spoke with at the passport office made a point of saying both parents needed to be there for security purposes. They don't want one parent getting a passport for the kid and stealing them out of the country without the other parent's knowledge. Maybe going to the post office can circumvent this policy, I'm not sure.

I was at the Post Office not long ago and this came up. Lady told the parent that both of them had to be there. Another time this old couple came in to get their passports so they could travel to Germany to visit some relatives there. The lady forgot her driver license and tried to still get the passport forms sent in through the PO. The lady behind the counter said no can do eventho they knew each other for like 20 years. So the point being it will probably depend on the person behind the counter. Mind you these instances just happened in the last couple weeks.

My kids got passports at 8 months. LOL! I need to have theirs updated sometime. Ours have another year or two on them since the last update, but I'm thinking of renewing sooner. They will begin putting tracking chips in passports very soon. These will be able to tell the government exactly where your passport is at.

Wow Matt you have kids? From your posts you've always come across and some dirty old man loner. :sign:

I picked 'em up at the bus stop......

..Wait, I thought you said that you got them in a cigar pass??

So 12 weeks ago I sent in the applications for our kids' passports. We leave to head out of the country this coming weekend, and do you think they have them finished yet? No, of course not! I've been calling for the last two weeks to check the status and change them to expedited processing, and every person I've spoken with has assured me that they'll put them on 'rush' status and get them done. Then every time I call back there's been no change. Now what's even better is that yesterday and right now their computers are down, and they can't check the status or do anything. And they hope to have them back up by tonight or tomorrow morning...

Ah, our beauracracy at work...hope you get this squared away pronto Gonz. I always keep an active passport ready to go, but the last time I renewed it, I was advised by the official to request a "rush" status (for an extra $20 mind you) so that I would get it pdq. I did and got it promptly. I would never have guessed that the alternative would be what you are unfortunately going through. Sucks brother. Good luck with it.

For brand new passports to have requested the rush status it would have been $75 a piece! Of course, at the time (12 weeks ago) they told me 6-8 weeks processing time, so to "play it safe" we went ahead and got ours ordered.

That really sucks gonz, I may just go ahead and get one for the future if there good for 10 years and take this long. Plus I’d rather have one without the tracking chip.

Another little tidbit on passports....

When you travel to certain countries that require entry/exit visas in addition to the passport, if you have less than 6 months left on your passport, they won't grant the travel visas. Another good reason to renew sooner than later.

Been down that road before. Our passports are in bureaucracy hell for some reason. Don't need them for a cruise but thought I should have one. Will have to resort to the old standby, use my goverment passport which I don't like doing when I travel as a civilian. My son paid up front to have his expidited and got his right away, go figure and he sent it a month after mine.

That link says up to 10 weeks processing. We're going on 12 weeks for our 6 month old and 3 year old kids!
