Wis. police chief tickets himself $235

KEWASKUM, Wis. - Police Chief Richard Knoebel says he wasn't about to take the easy way out when he accidentally drove past a stopped school bus with its emergency lights flashing.

For violating traffic laws, Knoebel wrote himself a ticket for $235, docked himself four points on his driving record and paid the fine the next day.

It happened in September but didn't make news until after the fine appeared in court records and was reported by a West Bend newspaper.

Now that was the honorable thing to do. My father-in-law was the post commander here with the GSP for 19 years, I don't think he would have ticketed himself in that situation but he certainly would give his own mother a ticket. In a fact he did ticket my mother-in-law for speeding in a school zone. She was doing 27mph but she had just cussed him and his buddies the night before so he thoght it only right to show her who wore the badge in his household. He later dropped the ticket, I think she cussed him better the next time and showed him who sewed his patches :laugh: .

Good for him one of my biggest peeves is Cops running stop signs/ red lights, making illegal turns, and speeding unnecssarily :angry: . I think at times it borders on abuse of authority, and sends the wrong message. They are supposed to enforce the law but at times seem to be the biggest offenders, they must lead by example as evident in this case.

To much of "Do As I Say Not As I Do" goes on nowadays. I take my hat off to the man.
