So the USPS denied a claim for a humidor that basically they destroyed in transit. I provided all the proper paperwork and submitted all the claim info. Well, Im not just letting this go so I need to figure out what my next step is. Anyone ever dealt with these crooks and insurance claims?

This is yet another reason I try to deal with UPS any chance I get.

Did you give them the entire package and also the humidor? If you don't, they will refuse you completely. You have to give them the entire package. Basically saying you can't submit a form and expect to keep the damaged goods while receiving a compensation from the USPS.

yep, they got EVERYTHING.

1) Was it just 'dropped' off? If so - contact the vendor - what incusrance did the vendor have on it?
2) Was it signed for? If so, it should not have been, since the box looked bad(my ass-umption)

I'd look down the first avenue.

What was the reason for denial?

It was a trade with Lucasbuck. I traded him the humidor for cigars. When he got the humi, it was destroyed. We worked together to make sure we had all of our ducks in a row and the claim was still denied. We did exactly as told step by step. There was more styrofoam in the box than the actual humidor.

This is what usps said....

Information received from the postal personnel indicates they were unable to find evidence the parcel was damaged while in our custody. The Postal Service does not accept liability for damage not confirmed by postal personnel. Since there is no physical evidence of postal damage or mishandling nor could postal authorities find any visible sign of damage to the exterior or interior that is consistent with the condition of the article, we have no alternative but to deny your claim.

I guess they missed all the cracked wood and the glass pushed out.

Hind site I know....pay for 'insurance' when sending $$$ stuff.

I'm sorry to hear of this. May I repeat the question of you if there was insurance/signature required for the item? I've yet to file a USPS claim and I'm curious if their insured items are this difficult to (successfully) process when damaged.

I did pay for insurance! This is what kills me! If I hadnt paid for insurance, I would call myself a dumbass and chalk it up as a lesson learned.

So, it's the USPS insurance that is denying you?

Was the outer boxed damaged?

I dont really recall what the outer box looked like. I used small fridge box to ship the humidor. Yes, usps insurance is denying the claim. Apparently they see nothing wrong. Of course there is not a number to actually talk to someone.

Hope this helps:

I found all that stuff. I want to actually speak with someone. I want to know where my humidor is. I want it returned. Im about to be out a humidor, money and cigars.

I had shipped a motorcycle tank this past winter that was damaged during shipping. At first USPS denied the claim, but then I got my local postmaster involved. He took my side as it was obvious that it was damaged during transport, they reversed the claim and I was taken care of. Talk to your local Postmaster.

I've never heard of a claim being paid by USPS. As far as I know it's a total scam. As Dave pointed out we did everything by the book. The packaging was trashed and it was obvious someone had opened the box in transit and raised holy hell with the humidor. Who knows why. I'm pissed and Dave is screwed.

lucasbuck showed the humi to a couple of the postmen and they noticed it was broken. Maybe Lucasbuck can get those guys to help. My postmaster never saw the thing but Im going to stop by this afternoon and try to speak with him. I still want to know where the humidor is.
