I am sure all of you have heard of the error on some of the new dollar coins. A number of the first run left the mint with no lettering on the edge.
This has created a bit of a frenzy over on Ebay and there are error coins being sold for as much as $200 each. Before this error was well known, they were selling for $600.
You will also see auctions selling "upside down" lettering error coins. These coins will have the lettering on the edge facing the back of the coin, others will have it facing the front. THIS IS NOT AN ERROR!!! It is a 50/50 chance that you will get one of these coins from the mint. The were made this way. The mint did not see which way the coin was facing as it went into the engraver as something to care about. As a result, some will face the front, others the back. It does not matter.
Just saw some scammer sell one roll of each of these "upside down errors", that is 50 bucks worth of coins that are worth only 50 bucks......for 75 bucks!
If you can get one of the real errors with no lettering, go for it. Just avoid the scams offering the ones with lettering facing the other way.
