Would you jump on this?

I personally wouldn't, because all it would give me is a box of cigar I wouldn't smoke, a humidor I wouldn't use, and a lighter I wouldn't use.

So for me, no....but if you're a monti guy, looking for a small humi and a lighter, I guess it's not bad.

Depends on the person.

It's an very good deal for me.

I need a humi for my 'overflow/dry box',
and with the Library Edition the total cost
was only $90-95.

If I figure $40-45 for the humi, I got 20 Monte
robustos for $50, which is a good deal.
They're perfect for golf, when I often supply
my brother with a couple smokes. And, one
of my herfin' buddies might buy a fiver or two.

JR got alot of my money this month.
I stopped there in person just last week! :)
Those Partagas robustos are good!

Chemyst

I got the yellow Monti humidor several years ago when they were introducing the Peruvian line. Used it as my office humidor. Kept humidity well first with a Credo then with beads.

See, the kicker here at this point is to decide which one of the Monte line best suited to your taste and then choose the right size of the line with the $ cost taking into account, then you may or may not take the plunge.

For me, personally I am bored of Monte (the Non-ISOM) one. They are average at best and the pricing level is just too high comparing to other stuffs on the market like Padilla, Honduran ERDM, RP Edge, RP Sun-Grown Select, Famous Nic 3000, etc... To fork over almost a 100 buck for a box of cigar Monte is just too much for me, even with the humidor throwing in free. I have two million LIGHTERs lying at home, in my suitcase, in my car, in my garage, in the drawer, so getting another FREE LIGHTER would not help much in persuading myself to take the plunge on the JR deal...

Your Mileage and Preference May Vary :D

I smoke many types of cigars to include ISOMs and the Montecristo Whites have a place in my cycle. They are a well made and consistant cigar. They may not be the 'hot' ones on the block but, IMHO, they are a good cigar. I have smoked ISOMs that have been very inferior to the Dominican Montecristos. If you don't mind experimenting and have a need for a humi, you may consider this. About the price, check around as I would not just buy it for the humi. On another note, don't be afraid about making mistakes. If the old timers were to tell you the truth, we all have made purchases that surprized us, both for the good and the bad.

Personally I would purchase the following:

48 Qt. cooler from Walmart.com 16.88 (Yes I know it's too small, I'm trying to keep this list cheap In reality my 120 Qt cooler for $50 was perfect)
(if a desktop Humidor is wanted I would get the Capri from CheapHumidors.com 21.99)

For an affordable lighter either stop by a Walgreens or pick up a Xikar Executive lighter. If I went with the Capri I would order it from cheaphumidors.com 19.99 and use discount code KOMP-QSA1HQ (10% off order) If I bought the cooler I would by it from Cigarmony for a dollar more and probably pick up a number of other things.

And all humidors need humidification so I would swing by Heartfelt and by a 1/2 pound of beads (60%) 16.95 and a small mesh bag 2.99.

Excluding any extras from Cigarmony the total is about $60. That leaves $20 to $80 to spend on cigars of your choice.

Edit to finish post.

I wouldn't say I'm cheap, but I would say I shop around before buying anything. :D

My favorites list has a folder of cigar stores that have either A. Good prices and I have had a good experience with them. or B. Good prices and I have heard great things about them.

That prior post took me only about 5 minutes of clicking around to get the prices

I think this weekly special is a decent deal. My experience has been that I have to look long and hard to find better prices, including shipping, on the Dominican Republic Montecristos. I can certainly find them for around 10 bucks less online (at least for the #3 of the classic line) or even lower if you are lucky enough to get in a low bid somewhere. I was more than happy to pay the regular price for the #3 and Half Coronas with just the free lighters as a bonus this year from the catalog. Last year, I got a free winter/smoking jacket when I bought a box of #3 for $99.95 plus shipping. The jacket has been outstanding this winter.

Unlike many, I enjoy the flavor profile of the Monte Classic line enough that the #3 is a regular for me and I even smoke the tiny Memories once in a while if I am out in the cold weather. Having said that, the bigger gauges seem to be too mild to satisfy me. The Whites and the Platinums/Cigar d'Arts are tasty in my book too for a once in a while, but these seem to be far less of a good price point for me. I often use the "domestic" Montes as a warm-up smoke before something stouter later in the day or as a before-breakfast with black coffee smoke.

Hope this helps, but these have nothing to do with the Havana models.

Cheers,
antaean
