Mold on my ISOM's

OK, I'm still a newbie so I need some experienced help with this one. I ordered a 3 pack of Montecristo Tubos from one of our reputable retailers here and when I opened them up I was horrified to see they were covered in mold. Needless to say I kept them away from my Humi. I've contacted customer service but no reply yet. Are these ISOM's dead or is there something I can do to salvage them? Thanks, Brian

Ask for a replacement or refund of your order. When they reship, make sure you tell them to inspect the cigars for mold before they send them.

If you decide to keep them, then your cigars should smoke fine as long as it isn't green mold and the foot of the cigar is mold free.

Trust me, I've had a LOT of trouble with mold. :(
 
It's pretty bad. If CS doesn't contact you, they wont kill you, but just wipe them down and smoke them.
 
You can wipe them off, and you might want to separate them from the rest of your cigars. I have a few cigars that had mold, I wiped them down, and quarantined two years later still no mold. You can also burn the mold off. :laugh: It sucks buying cigars with mold though.
 
That's a bummer. I've had some very minor mold problems....also on tubed cigars. I wonder if the dark and sealed environment makes the mold more of a problem? I'm thinking yes....

For me, the mold has been a much milder case than yours and I just brushed it off and smoked them anyway. These cigars look pretty moldy and I'm not sure I would smoke that much mold.

I also recommend that you contact the place where you bought them...I'm sure they will make it right.

I would get a replacement, but if you can't the mold doesn't look that bad. Wipe 'em down and tupperdor them away from the others.
 
No, just on the outside. The pics make them look pretty good because it's all around each one pretty heavily.
 
For three cigars? Doesn't appear to be that bad. I'd wipe it and smoke em. Seems like more hassle to ship back three cigars than its worth.

BTW, I would send a note to the vendor and show him the pictures of the cigars you received. I'd let him know I didn't want a replacement because of the hassle (over 3 cigars) but that I was sure disappointed. Most vendors will give you a little credit on your next purchase or strike up some kinda peace offering.

We have analyzed the pictures and we can see that this is not fungus.
Most probably it is bloom, you can easily wipe it out with your finger
or a smooth brush. Bloom should not be confused with mold. Mold is a
bluish-green and stains the wrapper. If it's really Mold (which is
fungus) it won't go away not even with a strong brush. Try it and see.
Also you can smoke one cigar and you will see that the taste is not
affected.

The cigars are still moldy, no matter what they say. That's the type of BS that vendors try to feed people 95% of the time...that said, moldy cigars, as said, usually smoke just fine so long as the mold hasn't grown into the binder and filler.

However, if that were an entire box of Montes and not just 3, I'd be pretty pissed at that vendor...
 
That is not bloom/plume; it is mold.

Having said that, it is not that bad. In a case like this, you should destroy the mold with fire. Start at the foot of the cigar and work your way up slowly. :D

I'm alittle surprised at the response from the vendor. But like others have said, since it's just 3 cigars I wouldn't worry about it.
 
Hmm, that looks like mold. Definitely get a replacement if you aren't happy. This also makes me ask, should I be opening 1-2 tubos to inspect when I get a box? Some had told me to keep the tubos shut for aging, but now seeing that mold can be an issue, it seems prudent to open at least 1 or 2.
