Tawny or Ruby?

I am in the other boat and have only tasted tawnys. So far they have a raison, butterscotch, plumb type flavor where I hear Rubys are more berry.
Whiskers Blake is the one I enjoy the most of the three I have tried but have enjoyed all three. The other two are Dow's and Cockburns.

For once, knowledge is making me poor!
I find ruby too sweet for my taste. Tawny seems to go better witrh cigars as well.

I enjoy the sweetness of a Ruby, especially with dessert. Graham's Six Grapes is one of my Favorites. Tawny will go better with cigars, the older the better IMHO. Fonseca makes some very good ones.... Taylor LBV ports are also very good.

I like them both. It all depends on what mood I'm in at the time. Sometimes a ruby will do and other times I'd prefer a tawny.

I do not anything about ports, but my local wine guy at Binny's of all places turned my on to a tawny called Joney, which I enjoy very much. It is only $10 a bottle and has paired very nicely with several cigars. I figure I am going to work my way into this habit slowly.

Been doing some searches and came across this site. It's a good 45 minute drive to the nearest liquor/beer/wine store for me (yeah, I'm in the boonies

I've always done my online wine and spirit buying from www.klwines.com and www.samswine.com, and have had nothing but excellent service from both. Plus, they have better selection and better prices than the store you linked.

Thanks NorCal! Since it was to be such a beautiful day out, I got up early, jumped on the H-D and made a road trip to the nearest liquor/wine store. Purchased a bottle of Sandeman Ruby and Sandeman Tawny Porto (per clerk's advice). I plan to try one or the other tonight. Any chance you've tried Sandeman and if so, your thoughts?

And so, it was a beautiful day here in the South. A perfect 79 F out with not a cloud in the sky. A slight, cool breeze sending some of the already turning leaves floating aimlessly to the ground.
As the sun started to sink further behind the pines, I decided it was a perfect time to try this new ruby porto. I poured a small glass, grabbed a Hoyo De Monterrey Excalibur from the bin, and headed to the front porch swing with my JRT Mandy at my feet.
After hunkering in, I fired up the Hoyo and let me tell ya, it was exquisite. Started smooth with no bite at all. The plume of smoke iminating from this fine specimen was beautiful. Just a hint of woodiness and leather. I grabbed my glass, took a sip, and oh my. This was the sweetest drink I've ever had. Luscious smoothness of berries with just a slight spiciness filled my mouth. Right after taking the first sip, I took a long draw of the Hoyo and the pairing was absolutely wonderful. The two together was a match made in heaven. I finished both off within possibly an hour and a half, enjoying the flavors of both immensely. What a wonderful way to end a glorious day!

Sounds like a great way to end the day ..... I haven't tried the Sandeman but it sounds like you really enjoyed it. If you get the opportunity, give the Hardy's Whiskers Blake a try sometime, one that I do keep around as a regular in the cellar.
