Loss of taste

At times I cannot taste cigars. I never know when it will happen. Seems to happen every couple of weeks. One day things are great, the next I can't taste even something as spicy as a DPG Blue Label. The next I am back to normal. Other times I am a super taster. This usually kicks in when I decide to have a second or third cigar. I can suddenly pick up flavors I never knew were there. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to it. I have no loss of smell when my cigar taste buds shut down and can still taste water, scotch, port or whatever I am drinking. Nor does anything else seem different when my taste buds are in overdrive. This ever happen to anyone else?

I feel sorry for you!

Can't say it's happened to me...wonder if your tongue is overloaded after too many cigars?

The most cigars I'll ever smoke is 3~4 in a sitting.
I've heard of people smoking 10 cigars a day!
Not sure if that screws-up someone's taste buds?

I wonder if the tobacco smoke is numbing your taste buds in some way?

In response to jfk742...I've heard this before.
Your mood can affect your taste...
Maybe trying too hard to taste blocks you from tasting?

I've had the same experiance and I was smoking 2 or 3 a day usually. I've found that the biggest factors is my mood and setting. If I'm smoking while working in the yard as opposed to having an evening smoke after dinner, or having a stick with friends or whatever. Some days I'm "on" and others I'm "off". When I notice being "off" the most, when I can't taste the subtleties of the cigar, is when I'm feeling hurried and instead of waiting for a better time just firing up anyways and not being able to enjoy just the act of smoking and/or reflecting on my day, week, etc... I played around with that idea and applied it over a couple of weeks and I found I smoke less but enjoy smoking more than before. Hope this helps.

I happens to a lot of guys, best bet is to just step away for awhile and take a week or 2 off smoking, when you come back your taste buds will be better then ever.

Seth, maybe it's not that you've lost your taste but that you never had any taste to begin with? :sign:
