Do you guys keep your labels or a log or anything?

Labels = Cigar bands? If so yes I do, in fact I still have the cigar band of the very first cigar I ever smoked over 20 years ago.

I don't keep a journal, but sometimes I wonder if I should for later in life when my memory isn't as good.

I keep all the labels in a little plastic baggy inside my dresser. Even if the cigar is a bad one, I'll keep it. I thought about keeping a journal as well, but for now my memory is good enough to where I can associate the experience by just looking at the label. Until that fails me, I'll worry about a journel later in life.

I keep bands for a project I'm planning and a journal just because I like to.

I've also found the journal to be helpful in determining purchases and trends in my likes/dislikes.

I use Cigar Register to keep an invnetory and a label printer to generate small round labels, as shown here. Works for me.

Have you found Cigar Register to work better than it did? I tried it when it was first released and with the first update and it was not very functional so I gave up on it. If it works better now I may have to revisit it.

I bought a Cigar Dossier. It has a place to put the label, notes, country, where purchased, cost, and rating for about 1000 cigars. It is really nice!!! I'd recommend getting one if for no other reason than to record what you do and dont like so that in 5 years you'll remember and not waste money!

It has worked for me since the first update. I'm using Version 2.0 now. It is still a bit "klunky" as far the UI. THey never did correct the cost field so it makes any sense, so I just ignore it. All in all it works for me... YMMV

I went to Barnes & Noble and purchased a leather bound blank journal. I keep my records in this journal in a similar format as the Cigar Dossier (sans labels, though they could easily be glued in place). While my journal doesn't have the nifty boxes and pre-printed fields, it did cost me $10 less.

I may give it another shot. I just got so frustrated with it the first time around I went back to my Xcel spreadsheet. Thanks for the info.

As I often enjoy the combination of a cigar, nice booze and a good book, I have a habit of using the bands as bookmarks. By the time I'm done with a fat volume, there might be half a dozen bands peeking from the pages.

A couple of weeks ago I forgot myself and returned a library book full of bands. I hope the next borrower appreciates my taste.

I just got finished downloading and inputing all of, ok well most of, my cigar data. I guess it is ok, it is better than the nothing I was using. I also tried Cigar Briefcase, and did not like it that much. All that is left is to see what is going on with the price data, then I am all set, until my next purchase.

I used to have a cigar journal, but that was when I only smoked one or two a week. :D

I finally stopped recording entries because it became more of a pain than what it was worth. Now I just enjoy smokin' them and record as much as I can in my noggin'. :)

I did when I started but it eventually became overwhelming.

What I ended up doing is buying good quality blank bands, labeling them with the date of production (and any other relevant information), and putting them in my humidor/winecooler-dor.

I do keep most of my labels. I've considered recording my notes in something like Cigar Register, but most who have mentioned it seemed unimpressed.

My wife bought me a blank journal recently, and I'm going to try that. I enjoy writing anyway, this seems like a logical choice.

Given I'm still in school I don't like to do any homework with my cigar smoking...so I just smoke em and hope I remember how it went...

Sometimes I do wish I wrote some notes down to help other BOTL out

I do as well Shawn. In fact, barring a very few instances (less than 10), I have the band of every single cigar I have ever smoked. It's sometimes a treat to go back and look at long-forgotten labels, labels from the boom of the early to mid 90's, etc.

Putting them on a log though? Nah. Keep 'em flat in little baggies, stored in emptied cigar boxes.
