After lurking for the better part of my brief time here and absorbing the wisdom present on this forum, I feel I must initiate a thread of my own. I've leaned towards the bigger RG and maduros in my cigar choices but tonight I opted for a smaller RG and natural wrapper based upon the reviews and opinions I've gleaned from these pages. I opted for my first Don Pepin blend and had a Padilla Miami 8&11 Corona and a AF 858 Claro and enjoyed both immensely. While I thought I knew what I liked in a cigar, it turns out I didn't know squat. Imagine what I'll know in another couple of weeks!!?? Thank you to all who share their knowledge and experiences for opening my eyes and broadening my horizons.

roadening my horizons.

This is simultaneously one of the best things about this place and one of the most dangerous, to one's wallet, anyway! But yeah, hanging around here definitely helps one find many more fine cigars to appreciate.

Welcome to the insanity - let the obsession begin. Good choices to dive in with. Share your experience with those sticks and write a review.

I don't even come close to possessing the discernible palate needed to write a review.....yet. I do think that the AF 858 had a bit more complexity to it and I found myself holding it close to me while not puffing it because the aroma was intoxicating. The Padilla was great, but I think I enjoyed the AF a little more.

It's great to watch someone see how much more there is to love in this hobby/obsession.
Palate? We don't need no stinking palate. Describe what you like, what you don't, how was the burn? The ash? Did it start strong and get weaker? Stronger? Bitter?
Hell, look at any review I've ever done....there is no palate invovle (with the exception of my ground-breaking review of the Fat-Free Fig Newton. Search for that bad boy.
