I need to go to Louisville for some business in Dec. I will be driving from Atlanta thru Bourbon alley in Kentucky. SO my question to the brothers and sisters of this board is this.

If you had the opportunity to stop at only 1 distiller which would it be and what would be your bottle of choice? I want to see if there is a consensus.

Thanks

Lou

Heaven Hill has a good visitor's center and tour and also offers a tasting. While their Bourbon is not my most favorite.....they put on a good show.

Maker's Mark is also a good choice, especially if you are looking for souvenirs....no tasting though.

Jim Beam offers tastings of the Small batch collection, but the tour is limited to a movie and a house on the property.

Thanks ddepaola. I should have been more specific in my request. At this time I am not looking for nickel tours and the such. I am looking for 1 bottle of uber-premium bourbon. Maybe something that is limited in release, only available at the distillery, etc. Maybe there is no such thing, and I should just go to the local spirits shop. Thanks

Lou

Off hand, most of the über bourbons are ones you can't get. Private PVW 23 bottlings, Japan only Wild Turkey, private Willett bottlings etc. etc.... things of that ilk. However, you can find the Four Roses Single Barrel which I rate very highly and possibly the 21 yo Rittenhouse Rye although that won't be cheap

AVB is right.......Heaven Hill does sell some of their export only Bourbons at their shop.

It's cool that you're going up there. I've been considering taking the drive myself, though mine would be strictly for bourbon purchases. The choices are endless, though I'd probably go for one of the limited bottlings like Four Roses or something from BTAC or one of the experimentals. My thinking is that you can get the export only stuff on your next trip. The above mentioned items may not be available then. Just my two shiny pennies.

Ya betterlet us know when you are in town. Drinks are on me if you show up. Don't forget Woodford Reserve, best setting in my experience.

DEFINITELY grab a Four Roses Single Barrel! Most any big liquor store in KY should have it in stock.

And if you're around Lawrenceburg on I-64, you can even go see their distillery (and Wild Turkey's too)!
