O.K. so I am still recovering, but.....

Went to see The Misfits Wednesday night. This is their 30th Anniversary tour, though they broke up and reformed so I guess it wasn't a continuous 30 years. I first started listening to them around '81 and saaw them just before Danzig left in '83, I think. This show had only one true orginal member in Jerry Only. But, Robo, who joined the band somewhat early on was on drums and Dez Cadena from the orginal Black Flag line up was on guitar. They played all the classic Misfits stuff and even played a couple of old Black Flag tunes. The venue was small, only holding a max of around 1000 people and it was full. Sound was not the best, but was loud. I am still at a small hearing loss right now as I type. Favorite songs of the night were Last Caress, Die, Die My Darling and Green Hell. Ended up haging around the club after the show for some reason. Kind of glad I did as I sat talking to a couple of younger guys and talking about the show and the "old days" of hardcore. Ends up one of the guys was having a birthday that night, 22 years young. After several shots of Crown Royal, I come to find out that he is Robo's son and the other kid was Jerry Only's son. So, a couple more shots and then we go back to the RV and hang out for a short bit with the band and crew. A great bunch of guys and not an "attitude" among them, much different from the one time I ran into Glenn Danzig. I took a bunch of pictures and will post them later as I have them on the laptop at home and not here in the office. PLEASE.. the next time I mention I am going to a show, remind me how old I am and that I SHOULD NOT drink shots of whiskey....no matter who it is with. :whistling:

Glad you had a great time Matt.

I think Jerry Only has had the exclusive rights to the Misfits name for some time now, and he's been the only remaining original member. He's held up pretty well too. I have to admit that while I tend to avoid "new" Misfits stuff, I did pick up his Project 1950 and it was pretty damn good.

But, gotta say, it would have been worth it just to see ol Dez again.

The Misfits kick ass, i would have loved to go to that show!

Yeah, the lawsuit was quite lengthy, from what I remember. They played everything a lot faster than recorded material and Jerry sang, which isn't quite Danzig-like. But, all in all pretty good show. Sitting in the RV with Jerry out of his make up and leather was a bit weird. Looked a bit like a defensive linebacker after a hard game. LOL! Robo's son told me that earlier this year, Danzig and Doyle hooked up for a show or two and did an original Misfits set.

Me and Jerry Only......I'm the one on the right....

People try to put us d-down
Just because we get around
Things they do look awful c-c-cold
I hope I die before I get old

Sounds like that would have been cool. Got to be better than what Danzig has been cranking out the last few years, though he's gotten a bit better than he was during his "techno" days. As for Doyle...anything would have been an improvemen over his Gorgeous Frankenstein project.

Blitzkid sounds very similar to glory-days Misfits, as do Juicehead and Zombeast, but to a lesser extent. There's also a group called Murderland that sound like...well...kind of like if Lady-Killer era Vandals decided to sing the songs of 45 Grave and the Misfits.

That's f-ing awesome Matt! I love the Misfits! The coffin boxset is one of my most favorite cd sets I own! I've never got a chance to see them. All my old tapes were destroyed by some jackass that broke into my car in the early 90's. I thought I never would get most of that replaced(most of those tapes were copies of the vinyl my friends had)! By the way, Bill, your only as old as you feel!

Sold into slavery down in New Orleans
Goddess of the bayou light
Black dog's head on the killing bed
Severed and left to bleed
There on fire in the corner of the world
There in misery
There on fire in the corner of the world
Left for God to see

Do you want to take a life
Do you want to cross that line
'Cause it's a long way back from Hell
And you don't want to go with me

That was the soundtrack of my youth. I saw Danzig at First Avenue three times as a youngin. Good times.

It also bears mention - as if there weren't enough reasons to love The Misfits (in any of their forms) - Michale Graves, the once "new" singer for The (resurrected) Misfits, is US Marine.
