Subject line says it all.

I'm ruling out desktop cutters and am mostly curious. I have at least a half dozen generic clippers sitting around and one xikar. None of them are perfect -- and, actually, sometimes I find I get a better cut with a generic twin-blade clipper than with the xikar. I find that the xikar can be a bit finicky. But that's just me.

To me, the ideal thing would be a double-bladed cutter with some kind of spring action so that, regardless of unequal finger and thumb pressure, you would get a perfect cut. Anything like that out there?

Otherwise, what'll y'all like and use?!

My once preferred Davidoff is often overlooked these days in favor of a Palio.

There are plenty of topics on this subject but the majority seem to prefer Xikar or Palio it seems. Some use the SAK type cutters as well. You can do the Wilkey score and lift technique as well and that is my preferred cut especially when the cutter is not the best because in my opinion poses to damage the cap the least.

Palio. I Just bought one a couple weeks ago and my Xicar collects dust now. I love the fact that the Palio is concaved so it can hold your cigars if your at a place without an ashtray.

Oh yeah, it's a sweet cutter too. :)

Palio! I have others, bought a Palio , liked it so much, picked up one to have in the car. Never leave home with out it.

Wenger. Why limit yourself? You drink beer don't ya? Skin a critter now and again? And who knows, ya might screw up and buy a bottle of wine with a cork.

Although I have (too) many of the various types of cutters, I prefer scissors or a very sharp knife. I use them to score my way around the cap and then remove the very end "flap". Although a good double G cutter can do this as well, I find the former methods offer more precise control. So I agree with Doc here on the SAK or even the Xikar Multi-Tool.

Cheap plastic cutter. I lose to many to keep a nice one around.

1. A sharp knife like my Benchmade Mini-RSK
This tool wins on style, sharpness, and precision of cut for only removing the cap leaf. Using a sharp knife is a meditative act.

2. Palio original finish
A very capable too that IMO has better ergonomics than the Xikar and feels more secure in the hand. Also, less mechanically complicated and fewer things to go wrong. This is the cutter that replaced my 10-year old Davidoff guillotine.

I'm in the minority. I love my Xikar. I've become quite skilled at removing just the cap, without cutting much of the bunch. I actually have a hard time using any other cutter. Also the spring broke on me and I sent it back to Xikar and I had a replacement in 7 days. Great service. I've used the Palio and it is a nice cutter. Slices through the cigar like butter, but I still prefer my Xikar.

Xikar laid on the table... snip... perfect cut every time.
