I have noticed that several online retailers offer a cigar of the month club. Some are by the box, some by the five pack, and even by an assortment. Does anyone have a preference in any of these clubs? Is it a good deal or not?

I appreciate your input,

Johnny

I've been subscribed the the CI Cigar of the Month club for several months now. It isn't a bad way to try new things or even just unheard of things. I actually discovered a couple of regular favorites I now smoke through this. It comes with a little dissection of each cigar telling you almost everything about it and on the front there is some cigar news plus jokes and tips & tricks for cigars and accessories. Check it out.

Kind of a forced way to try new things, so probably not a bad idea for a beginner. Once you get a basic idea of what you like, though, it's a waste, imo. :)

I'm going to start CI cigar club in April, but i'm just going to do it for about 6 months. I thought this was a good way to try different brands.

Just go to your B&M tell them what you have smoked and like. They can do the same thing for you and tailor it to your liking. When you smoke the first batch go back and tell them what you liked and didn't and any good B&M will do a better job for you than some generic club.

The closest one around here is about an hour away and has pretty high prices. He is excellent, customer friendly and offers advise on all his smokes. I may chceck with him next time I am over that way.

Thanks to all that have replied,

Johnny

Just keep an eye out around here there are some people selling samplers all the time. Think you can get more for your money here than some club.

I stay away from monthly clubs. If you must dabble, buy sampler packs on-line or go to your B&M and tell them which type of cigar you like to smoke. They'll be more than happy to set you up.

We've got a couple three or four stand up shop owners here that could likely do something like this for you and you would certianly get a better return on your money. Check with Puffstuff, Hermit11, Uptownissy, or Norcalmark and JimD. Better yet, cycle through all four of them, and benifit from five different experiences and shelf selections.

I was gonna suggest you try a newbie sampler trade, but I see you've already got one in the works... nice move. That is a very good way to get a nice variety of sticks from an array of price points. I believe you can do that 2x..... so you should definitely find some new favorites among those. Can't go wrong..... and from a fellow Louisianian no less.

My wife bought me the one from CI a couple years ago for Christmas. She got me a 3 month subscription to see how I liked it. I don't remember exactly what was in it, but I do remember the first month was great, got more than what was paid. The second month was average - about equal to what we paid. The third month sucked.

She asked me if I wanted her to renew it for my birthday, and I said no thanks, because I could see how the trend was going.
