Almost two weeks ago I sent a Newbie pass on it's first leg out, going from Mt.Holly, N.C. to souldog24ca in Murrieta, Ca. Well after wondering a little about what was going on I pm'ed Jonathan and ran my dc# through the P.O. website and found it had been delivered in Murrieta CA like planned, but not to Jonathan. Today is the 21st...it shows delivered at ~4pm on May 12th. What I'm trying to get to here is maybe pass hosts in the future need to require signature confirmation instead of just a dc#. This way, the pass recipient is responsible for physically signing the pass into his possession instead of the P.O. just dropping a box off for anyone to pick up and walk away with.
Yes my pass was covered under CPI but how many of the passes that go out can be sufficiently reimbursed with the stock in the CPI collection. I know if my two previous passes had gotten lost or stolen, I would have been out of a great deal of money invested in those cigars. This pass was a newbie pass and didn't have the value of my other two, but I'm still losing several hundred dollars out of my pocket because of this. Along with my lineup of cigars, I also added a bag with 10 AVO LE08's for each one of the guys to try...I'm pretty sure that because these weren't in the lineup, CPI wouldn't cover these and still wouldn't be able to make up for the cigars that are lost because there are just a bunch of random cigars in CPI's collection.
Another thing that might need to be done is the dues paid to Emo for inclusion into CPI be cigars that have value to them. I'm not saying what's in there are dog rockets, but if my Pretty Penny pass or any other pass for that reason, had gotten lost or stolen, the pass host would be S.O.L. Instead of send a couple of cigars valued at ~$8-$12, have each prospective member send in 3 cigars valued at $20-$25. This way if a pass is lost or stolen, the pass host would at least be able to get closer value if CPI did in fact need to be used.
These are are solely my opinions and to my knowledge I'm not sure if any other passes have ever been lost or stolen, but if it happened to me, then it can happen to any pass on the road now or in the future.....just something to think about guys.

ummmm.....nevermind. Seems while I was typing, Jonathan had gone to the P.O. and found the box. Sorry for the drawn out post guys....a little premature.

I think the post is actually fine. We may have gotten lucky this time and it wasn't lost, but my faith in the postal service makes me think it has happened or will happen in the future. Especially boxes that are placed at door steps or offices during the day. In this case it didn't happen it is best to think of the problems before they arise rather than deal with the mess they cause. I have yet to join CPI but it is on my list of things to do.

USPS scared me the other day too. A really nice fiver went missing for a week and finally turned up on the other end. I know alot of us can't be home for the mail or have a hard time getting to the PO during business hours. Still, it's possible to require sig even if you have to go to the PO on a Sat morning to pick it up. USPS Delivery Confirmation doesn't show the full address either, so it leaves room for self doubt. I know I triple check labels, but it's still cause for wonder. ??? Of course alot of us don't have a Fedex or UPS office close by so it's even tougher to pick a sig only package.

Brian, I lost my first pass for over a month! It had made it's way all the way back to KC but not to me. The bastards at the ups store in our shopping center had the box. I had to send my postal lady down there to finally get the SOB back. I had gone down there every other day for that month and they told me they didn't have any of our mail. The Postal lady came in with an arm load of stuff along with my pass! Pricks!

Khari's Newbie Pass (of which I was a participant) also had a missing package scare. The DC# showed that the pass was where it was supposed to be, but wasn't delivered. Ultimately USPS ended up returning the package to the sender as being undeliverable. The sender successfully resent the package via Fed Ex. We pretty much finished out that pass using Fed Ex for that reason.

A few months ago after another incident, Cigarstone was checking into starting a CP account with one of the carriers. Don't know where that stands now, but I'm sure Jeff hasn't forgotten about it.

Was your pass insured through the USPS?
No, I didn't insure it through USPS because I didn't think that they'd cover any type of tobacco products. Thankfully this was just a scare, albeit a lengthy one.

I remember that...I also remember sh!!ting my pants because when I sent it out it went everywhere else but the intended recipient. Sometimes the mail does weird things but (knock on formica) I've only had 2 items lost so far.

Not to try and cheat the USPS, but insuring the CONTAINER for equal value of the incidentals located within is probably ok. I've never seen a $300 tupperware but I haven't been down Rodeo Dr. for a couple of years... :whistling:

Mang this scared the crap outta me with my pass on the road. Glad to hear your pass has been found! :D BTW the USPS insurance is a scam, you have to have all original receipts and file at the PO where it was sent, so damage claims are an even biger joke!
