Imus & Al.....So Happy Together!

First Imus......

QUOTE
Warner Wolf: "Defensive back Adam 'Pacman' Jones, recently signed by the Cowboys. Here's a guy suspended all of 2007 following a shooting in a Vegas night club."

Imus: "Well, stuff happens. You're in a night club, for God's sake. What do you think's gonna happen in a night club? People are drinking and doing drugs, there are women there, and people have guns. So, there, go ahead."

Wolf: "He's also been arrested six times since being drafted by Tennessee in 2005."

Imus: "What color is he?"

Wolf: "He's African-American."

Imus: "Well, there you go. Now we know."

Now Sharpton......

This morning Don Imus responded to a report on his radio show about Dallas Cowboys cornerback Adam Jones' legal troubles by asking, "What color is he."

Within hours, Al Sharpton had issued this statement:

"I find the inference of his remark disturbing because it plays into stereotypes. Any use of stereotypes is always counterproductive. We will determine in the next day or so whether or not his remark warrants direct action on our part as we did in April of last year."

The action in April of last year that Sharpton refers to was his group's organized boycott of Imus and his sponsors, which eventually resulted in the cancellation of Imus in the Morning.

Like Yogi said......."This is like deja vu all over again."

The sad part is Sharpton has to wait to see "whether or not his remark warrants direct action" or NOT? :( WTF? Is it ALL about the money and not about self-respect?!?! But then again if we are talking about self respect, Packman wouldn't be such a THUG!
Imus should be run out of town on a rail and ALL sponsors should have been put on instant notice! I'm NOT for censorship but, Imus is just out of hand & WRONG. At the very least he should move to pay-talkradio as that appears the place for racism/sexism and jokes about mentally/physically challenged people.

Funny thing is, I'm still waiting for Sharpton to issue an apology to the Duke lacrosse players falsely accused of rape before I will listen to him on anything.

That being said, Imus was clearly wrong here, and no amount of spin control or backpeddling can change that.

I don't think Hell is freezing over any time soon!

I'll be honest, I spent at least 2 minutes nodding my head to the song before I could read your post.

Anyways, I wonder why it is that Al Sharpton can't judge whether or not action is warranted himself. Really, is it that hard to see the racism in the statement, and say "hey Imus, you're an idiot, stop trying to get famous by making racist statements". I really doubt that it slipped out, I'm sure he said it intentionally in the hopes of getting some more attention, assuming he'd get another slap on the wrist. Hopefully he gets fired, and has to work at McDonalds the rest of his life.

I completely agree, he owes them a big apology.

you can add the other 100000 media/activists to that list too!!

I was going to say something about how free speech has been killed in the USA, but thought it might start a flame war, so I'm just going to edit myself before I get labeled a racist

I heard a little follow up on this today. I don't know if Imus is in Damage Control mode or what, but he is claiming that he said what he said to point out that African-Americans are targeted by the police more than whites. He claims that the "Well, there you go. Now we know." was to highlight that it was the police targeting Pacman because he was black and not that he committed crimes because he is black. I'm not really buying it though. If you had Imus' track record, I would think you would stay away from anything that could possibly be construed as rascist.

Yeah, I'm still waiting for that, too! I just wish the good Reverend Al would go away and shut his attention seeking pie-hole, but as long as there is a chance to get in the media spotlight, he'll be around.

I'm not a fan of Imus, but I'm surprised he didn't try to clarify his comments better given the hot water he got in last year.
