I guess since I am a reenactor I may be a little more sensitive to this, but I heard from one of the other guys I reenact with that the Eternal Peace Light memorial was vandalized sometime today. The park service can't do much with it right now because it's too cold to use the chemicals necessary to try to clean it. There is a fear that it may be "unfixable."

The lack of respect in our society is disturbing. And, yes I know I'm beating a dead horse, but I get to see it on a daily basis in middle school with students whose parents don't discipline them nor do they teach them to respect adults. And they expect the teachers to raise the kids, but not discipline them. I know that this isn't the first time something has been vandalized, but really..... it's disgusting.

Okay, so, yeah. If I type any more, this will turn into a sermon, and possibly go political or something. So, I'm going to stop while I'm ahead.

Its a game; here's his answer:

MrErskine, I couldn't agree with you more. Unfortunately a segment of today's youth have shit for brains that continues to rot and only gets worse day by day. Of course there's always been vandalism, but the frightening thing is that today's vandals seem to be getting bolder and bolder with less (or no) remorse. I find this incident particularly disturbing on a number of levels. As a Civil War reenactor who tries to honor the memory and sacrifice of those who fought in that conflict I am appalled whenever a site such as Gettysburg is vandalized. As a veteran, I am even more disgusted when memorials are damaged...and damaging this particular memorial that is dedicated to peace is tragic to say the least..

Holy triple post Batman. No but seriously, people are dumb, plain and simple. I am still a kid myself, I'm only 23, and hate to say this, but I can't stand most people my age. Most of them are just stupid and have no direction in life.

Fixed my first post...

I spent much of my childhood there, and before my wife and I moved from Hagerstown, I would go up there nearly every weekend, especially when the weather was fit for riding my motorcycle. The rest of the guys in my reenacting unit have been less subdued in their ideas on how to handle this, but then--they aren't posting on a forum.

Unfortunately, the respect for life and its preservation is gone... Just go to CNN.com or Foxnews.com, and you'll see it all over. I don't know whether I'm more angry or sad.
