Need feedback - Coleman 70 QT Cooler

Having to expand your storage Rod? There's something about this place that'll make you do that! :laugh:
 
I have that exact model. Doesn't work well "upright" (fridge-type stance) and doesn't have multiple slots for shelves. Otherwise, it works fine w/some weatherstripping, and I've got a Peltier ready to fit into the lid for the summer. What do you want to know about it? :)

Rod I have this exact cooler and it is excellent. I never had to make any modifications. The seal is air tight.
 
Good to hear. I don't plan on making it stand upright; it'll remain on the floor and for storage purposes only. My primary concern is the seal; I hate to have to put weatherstripping on it. Sounds like this cooler has a great seal...
 
They make a great mash tun...If your into home brewing

the channel in the bottom let you get the stainless steel braid from a water connection hose below the grain bed so there is very little dead space.

I'm interested in knowing how you will attach the peltier in the lid.

I haven't decided yet, but it'll probably involve holes where the drinks holders are, expandable foam, and duct tape :D.

My house is old and it isn't reasonable to keep it below 75* all summer long. I was thinking of using one of the large coolers that have a small access lid for grabbing drinks without opening the large lid. The only problem I can see with that is keeping humidity by sealing the small door. I have not seen one personally since thinking about doing this.

Some do and some do not. I have the exact model, but I had to go through their entire stock to find one that had the best seal.

My house was built in 1902, and I have no A/C, so it gets hot and humid in the summer. In the past, I've re-located the coolers/humi's to the basement, but I want to try and keep one coolerdor upstairs for convenience.

One of the clubs I belong to has a monster cooler (Igloo?) with the extra flap lid and I'm pretty familiar with it. I don't think that the extra lid would be as useful indoors, as the cooler would be out of direct sunlight and wind, but I'm just guessing. From what I remember, the extra lid has a decent seal, and the seal could easily be improved with some weatherstripping. Note that a vinotemp or similar is the obvious and easy choice if one was starting afresh.

I'll post pics, etc., if/when I do the Peltier install in the spring. The Peltier is a complete unit that already has heatsinks and fans, so I just need to wire in a thermostat/relay and make a power supply.

Just arrived today, and it's excellent! Has a great seal too. Perfect size for what I'm going to do with it. :)
