Cigar Band Table Project:

Your table is looking great. I've been glueing my bands to the joists in my shop. I've been using titebondII. No problem with the Opus bands coming up. When you are done I know of an epoxy you can pour over the top. it'll make a layer about 3/32" thick and be smooth as glass. Let me know if you are interested. :thumbs:

Very cool project! I have three framed picture frames full of bands. I wish I would have thought of that idea. The table looks great!

Same here on the Epoxy. The tabletop is rough right now, so that would help a whole lot. Whatcha thinkin'?

 

[Humidor Minister]

The Epoxy is called Envirotex Lite. I use it when I build wood grain woofer boxes. It's the equivalent of 50 coats of clear. You mix it up 50/50 and pour it on. It will have a lot of air bubbles let it sit for a few minutes then you go over it with a heat gun(Per instructions) Or use a propane torch (My way) :thumbs: All the bubbles will disappear and you'll have a glass smooth coat. make sure you have something on the floor to catch the run off and what ever you do, don't step in it and walk in the house. (Been there, done that) :blush:

Things to be aware of:
1-Don't use contact adhesive where the epoxy can get to it. It will break it down.

2-If you use a torch, don't hold it in one place at any time. (Torch works way better but be sure no bands are sticking through)

3-Put some sort of a tent over it during drying to keep dust off

4-Mix it very, very thoroughly but not rapidly. More of a stirring motion. It won't dry if not mixed properly.

5-I use a Bondo spreader to spread it out

6-Mix a lot at a time and pour it all over.

7-Do a small piece to test your adhesive for break down. It takes about 24 hrs to cure in a dry area.


If you guys have any other questions just let me know. If you Google it, it'll come right up. It's about 50 to 55 bucks a gallon and worth every penny. They make smaller kits as well.

I've been so busy with work, and no internet (except at work...go figure) that I haven't worked on it since the last posting. I've got a HUGE box from Matt B. that is going to finish this baby in style. More to come!

I can't believe it's taken me this long to update my table. I am on the home stretch, and it's tedious as hell.

After much "cajoling" (i.e.- "Finish your damn table!!" :laugh: ) by Stoggie13, I got off my butt and decided to update the table. Here is a picture:

All that's left is the top half, the other half of the "x" and the center!! Woo hoo! :thumbs:

My next project is gonna be an ammo-can humidor. :0

I'm thinking whatever size I can find that is in good shape at my local Army Surplus store. .45 cal is a decent size, and the same kind Stoggi13 has. Now to find a source for spanish cedar.

I made one out of a 9mm ammo can while I was in Iraq.
I used the insert from a Belinda Ammo box. I think it came out all right.
There is a thread on here some where.

Check your local hardwood supply places, a place local to me actually carries cedar remnants specifically for humidors.

As of 07/29/2009, I have finally finished my cigar band table. It's been a daunting task , but it has been truly worth it. This table is a true testament for me about the spirit of CP, paying it forward, and the bond our hobby cements between us. Many of these bands have been enjoyed by their owners in times of tribulation, jubilation, celebration, and consternation. A majority of these bands were donated by good BOTLs, taken from others at herfs, and personally handed to me while smoking in a quiet place with an old friend.


The biggest reason this table means so much to me is that I feel I was finally able to create something to memorialize Brian (Infinity) in. In the very center of the table is a Padron Millennium band from the first cigar that he and I smoked at his house. I was new to Cigar Pass, and new to cigars. The first time I met Brian was the moment I learned what a BOTL is, and was the very first time I became a student of his wisdom. Brian is a very dear friend that I will always miss, and always revere with the highest of respect.


Now, a piece of him that is very dear to me is immortalized in the center of this table, reminding me of this: No matter how many HTF's you chase down, no matter how many bombs you send, no matter how many sticks you have; IN THE END IT'S JUST CIGARS. Act accordingly and smoke those motherbitches.

Very classy and one of a kind, I'm looking forward to the day when I am in your neck of the woods and can check it out in person, it'll be a hell of a conversation piece, that is for sure. I never had the honor of meeting nor talking with Infinity, but any time someone is remembered is something good, I'm sure he would be pleased to see your hard work come to fruition.
