So yesterday was a “Pepin “event at my local B&M here in Albany. I’ve been pretty cranked up about this for a couple of weeks and really had no idea what to expect. The event started at 4pm so naturally I was there at 3:45.
I pull into the parking lot and who do I see standing outside in the doorway…the man himself. Now I’m not easily awe struck but something about meeting Pepin has me really excited.. I grab my camera and jump out of my car. I go into the shop say hello to the shop owner and immediately meet John Gonzalez. Introduced myself as a big fan etc…I ask if Pepin will be rolling at all and he said no. ..they don’t have any tobacco with them.
So I see Pepin in the humidor …all by himself. So I walk/run in and introduce myself and start to rattle on about how big a fan I am, what lines I love of his, tell him how much I love Tat’s etc…..I’m just jabbering for about a good two minutes. Pepin is smiling and nodding…and then in walks John Gonzalez who is laughing a bit. I look at him and say” what’s wrong?” suspecting something was up. He said “Pepin doesn’t speak English,…he didn’t understand a word you said” . I start laughing my ass off and tell John to tell him I’m a big fan and appreciate his work. He does and we shake hands again and I have John snap a picture.
It was a real honor meeting this man face to face…just wish I could have gotten a custom roll of his.
I bought a few DPG cigars. Smoked a Blue on the porch and headed out about 5: 30.
