Growing too fast.
Time to smoke a cigar and relax. I pulled out a JDN Antanos out the desktop and headed out back to try it out. I’ve only smoke a couple of JDN cigars prior and admit that they haven’t been my cup of tea. However, as with many a smoke, things aren’t always what they once were. This is a meaty looking cigar with a dark brown wrapper that has noticeable oils and somewhat coarse. There’s a hefty weight in the hand, very little give when squeezed, and with the cap punched a draw that has just a little more resistance than I like.
Fire to the foot, a couple of puffs to get the burn going, and I take a long, slow draw. My tongue is greeted with sweet spiciness in the medium to full-bodied smoke. Dark flavors of sweet cocoa and rich, moist earth come through with excellent deep-roasted nuts underneath. Delicious!
The burn is sharp with a medium to dark gray ash forming, however the draw has unfortunately tightened up even more. I clip the head with my Palio hoping it would open it up some, however it’s a no go. Massaging and rolling the cigar does help, but only slightly. I’m still able to get out enough smoke to enjoy the full-bodied incredible flavors coming through. Sweet spice and rich, dark earth are predominant with what seems like vanilla bean in there somewhere.
As mentioned, I’ve smoked a couple of JDN cigars previously and really didn’t care for them, however this one is an outstanding smoke. Perfect burn, rich flavors, incredibly lasting finish with a really nice twang of vanilla. The only downside would be the draw, which wasn’t completely bad. Maybe a good thing in a way as I can definitely tell if it were open, this would be an ass-kicker smoke; definitely not one for the weak. Excellent cigar!
