I recently picked this smoke up in Gonz’s “CP’s Chef Pass” that Brandon (Bfreebern) put and decided to give it a go this evening. After conversing with Brandon, it seems this particular cigar is possibly an ’07 vintage. I’ve smoked a number of Trinidad vitolas, however this is the first Fundadore. The cigar is perfectly rolled with a smooth, golden brown wrapper, noticeable oils, and minimal veins. There’s a very good weight in the hand, very little give when squeezed, and with the pigtail cap punched I find the draw a bit on the tight side. Hopefully it’ll open up once it’s warmed and loosened up some.

I put fire to the small foot and the cigar was burning perfectly in no time. First draw was exquisite with a perfect white pepper spice on the back of the throat and insanely rich flavors of roasted nut, vanilla and sweet, dark caramel. Most Trinidad’s I’ve smoked have had a very light, floral quality, however this one was nowhere near light as the smoke was a good medium in body. I could faintly detect the floral notes, yet the flavors just seemed heavier and darker. I swear this thing tasted more like a Cohiba lancero than a Trinidad.

The burn was incredibly sharp with a strong, medium to light gray ash forming. I find the draw to still be slightly on the tight side, but it’s working really well with the body of the smoke. Taking a slow, long draw brings more than enough incredibly rich, sweet smoke through. Flavors are simply fantastic and quite complex with roasted nuts, vanilla, caramel, wood, and earth. Simply wow!

This cigar performed perfectly from first light to nubby little end. The smoke, a good medium in body, was so very smooth and creamy over the tongue, and the finish left on the palate after exhaling was downright delicious, long and lasting. This was one of, if not the best Trinidad I’ve smoked to date. A perfectl burn throughout, spot on draw, incredibly rich and complex flavors with a finish that was just mmm…mmmm…mmmm! Fanfreakintastic cigar!!

Great review on what is IMHO one of the finest to come from Cuba. I can only agree with everything you said.

This was taken November '07 at Club Amigo Atlantico and while I've bought a few singles, I've never seen a full box.

EDIT:

Yeah, what's with the spider?? Smoking buddy?

And along came a spider....

I dunno, I watched him catch a fly and had to snap a shot. Freaky lookin' thing.

If you can, try and get your hands on an 1998 Fundadore, talk about incredible.

I have a couple of Fundis from the '98 Cajón of 75 Humidor that look fantastic. I will be firing one up soon.

Bought some of those in the packing room straight form the factory when I was visiting 4 years ago.. They sat in my humidor since then and 3 days ago I smoked one......man was it something else....yummy

Great review on the Trini! I was looking for info on Trini's around here. Doesn't seem to be too much of a popular line of smokes with peeps around here. Or, at least they aren't mentioned much. I love the Fundadores! Only if I had any. I might have one from '98 hiding somewhere, tho. I've been looking to pick up some more Trini's and looking at the robusto exta. Your take wasn't so great on that review, tho...

Awesome camera skills Greg! Spiders are so fascinating up close, when far away you just want them smushed.

While I do enjoy the occassional Fundi...I much prefer the Reyes...

HA HA Jim did you steal that cup and saucer off a Marine Atlantic ship?

The Reyes is a great smoke and I do enjoy smoking them when I don't have the amount of time needed to smoke a Fundadores but the Fundi is IMO a better cigar! I also believe that the Trinidad brands are over looked as one of the best! Maybe it's the lack of spice that cases this but they're just a fantastic cigar that has such a complex flavor profile.

Spiders....why can't they just have two eyes like everything else!

I heard that these babies may be discontinued. That would be a serious tragedy.
