National Anthem

It shouldn't be. If you live here, you should love your country. Does it mean playing it at a movie? Doesn't really matter to me. It doesn't affect me either or. The people that piss me off are the ones who want it taken out of baseball games or like the recent event where a hospital made a supervisor take her flag down in her office because another supervisor, who moved here from Africa 15 years ago, didn't like it.

Patriotism is almost dead in this country. Look after 9/11. You saw flags everywhere. Every house and car had one. Now most are gone. It is still in front of my house and will stay there. Like Doc said, on their sleeves.

This is exactly why this becomes a political issue. If I was one of those people who wanted the anthem taken out of baseball, what would you think of me? Would you respect my opinion or would you lambast me and lump me with all the rest who don't share your opinion? On the other hand, if I wanted the anthem played in many more situations and viewed anyone who didn't like it "unpatriotic", what segment of people, groups, etc. would come after me? Would they have a leg to stand on?

Politics are a very polarizing subject and the flag/anthem is keyed into it. I guess a bigger question is, can a person be patriotic without needing to hear the anthem? Can you instill patriotism in a person that isn't patriotic? Can a person live in the states without loving it?
 
As far as I'm concerned: if you don't like the anthem or my flag (or want either removed from somewhere) then you can get out. I don't care if it ruffles anyones feathers. I fought for her and had many brothers die for her.

EDIT: I wasn't directing this at anyone in particular.

Do you need to love the anthem or the flag to love America?

This makes me think of the 'Burning Flag' trick Penn and Teller do. Look it up and listed to Penn's view on the whole issue, it's something to think about if nothing else.
 
That is true and an interesting point. I really don't know how to put into words why My Flag is more than just a symbol. Until you fight in front of it I wouldn't expect anyone to truly understand.

Well Jarhead, we fought in two very different wars in very different times. I kind of envy you and the support you were given.. I can tell you this, I didn't fight for my country; I fought for the guys in my platoon.

I don't know if support is the word I was use. But yes our situation back home is much improved than that of the past.
