I had to box up a fiver of these this morning, so went ahead and took one out for myself. The wrapper is a medium brown in color, somewhat blotchy, and has noticeable oils. There’s a slight give when squeezed, has a good weight in the hand, and with the tapered cap cut I find a perfect draw of fresh tobacco coming through.
The tapered foot lit easily and after a couple good puffs to get it burning good, I take a long draw. A nice black pepper spice hits the back of the throat from the good medium-bodied smoke with a sweet taste of vanilla bean, cocoa, and fresh earth coming through. The burn immediately goes to one side, however corrects itself well after a bit with a dark gray ash forming that holds well until tapped off in the ashtray.
Flavors remain consistent through the first half with the smoke itself a good medium to almost full body and the black pepper spice mellowing slightly. A really good vanilla with fresh earth are coming through, however there’s a straightforward tobacco taste as well. The finish is long on the palate after exhaling.
Towards the end, the black pepper spice becomes strong again and the smoke increases to a full body, very strong. Flavors are really good with the vanilla still present, however a more charred wood taste is now coming through. This is one very intense cigar in the final stage, no doubt. The finish continues to be long and lasting on the palate.
I thoroughly enjoy John’s smokes and this was no exception. It had a good burn throughout with strong ash, delicious flavors, and lasing finish all the way to the end. I’m really looking forward to seeing how these smoke with a couple few years age on them. Excellent smoke John! Thank you sir!
