I haven't been smoking cigars for a few years but I have a humidor I think I would like to season and load up with a few sticks. I can't remember all of the proper ways to go about it. I also have a tube of beads that have been sitting in there for a few years. Are these still ok to use, and what is the right way to keep the humidity levels right with these. How to add water, how often, etc..

Thanks.

This is actually a sticky a couple posts above yours. http://www.cigarpass.com/season-humidor/

And there is a few bead threads around, or you can just go to heartfelt and read the FAQs.

A few questions:

1.) What kind of humidor is it?
A.) A cedar lined wooden box, much akin to those that are found online at humidor websites.
B.) A tupperware box complete with decorative Lisa Frank stickers.
C.) Ziploc bag with "mY SeEGaRS" scribbled on the front in Sharpie.

2.) What kind of humidification devices do you have in it?
A.) Two green foam bricks and a tube of beads.
B.) A tube of beads and some lubrication.
C.) A quarter slice of an apple, cause' it's wet.

3.) What kind of beads do you have in it?
A.) A set of 75% beads from Heartfelt industries.
C.) The kind you get from those stores that sell the edible underwear!
B.) HA! You thought I forgot "B" didn't you!

4.) What is the storage count on your humidor, and how many cigars do you have inside?
A.) It is a 100 count, and I have 2 cigars inside. (Buy more you slacker.)
B.) It is a 1,200 count, because I am a high-rolling know-it-all and bought the biggest desktop in the world. (I kid because I love.)
C.) I'm not sure, and I have one Backwoods pack in there.

5.) Do you have a hygrometer in there?
A.) Okay, what the **** is a hygrometer?? I only have a tiny clock in there, but it never tells me the right time.
B.) Yes, I have three, just to be safe.
C.) Nah, thems are for wimps. I just shove my finger in there and smell it to see where my humidity's at. Works for everything, even ladies of the night.

Or, if you don't feel like playing my stupid questions game: Get some distilled water wet down the foam and beads wipe down the inside with a distilled water-moistened cloth salt-test your hygrometer (SEARCH!) close the lid wait (DEEP BREATH FOR A RUN-ON SENTENNNNNCE) for a week then fill that motherbitch with sticks.

Rinse and repeat. All you need to know now.
