Does anyone here smoke cigarettes as well as cigars? I have been since I began smoking cigars again this past month. When I gave up cigars a couple years back I had been nicotine free for almost 3 years. Now I find myself smoking a pack of cigs and a cigar daily. I am going to try and kick the cigs soon I hope, though I just bought 3 cartons of Dunhill internationals at a cheap online European Tax free cig store. I must be killing myself by the second now!

And once in a while I try to enjoy a nice cigar (well I have been trying more cigars lately but I would like it to be smoked with moderation)

I smoked cigarettes (2.5 pks daily) for 35 years.. Of course during that time, I also smoked cigars. April 1997 I quit completely. I had a box of patches and knew I would run out of cigs on a particular friday evening. I smoked as normal all evening, and when I went to bed, I had only a few cigs left. I threw them away, put my lighter away and went to bed. Next morning i put on a patch and never looked back.. Have not had a cig from that day to this.
The motivation was that my daughter -in- law was pregnant with my grandson. I wanted to be around to enjoy him. My son quit smoking to support his wife's quitting while preganant... I decided I would be damned if I would admit he could do something I could not do, so I quit too..
He started again... I did not

I picked up cigars again about 18 months after quitting cigs and still have no desire for a cig... smoke cigars on weekends..

After 35 years... Congratz!

I smoked cigarettes from about 83 to 97. 1 1/2 to 2 packs of Marlboro Reds a day.
Thought I'd never quit. I took Welbutrin during the quitting process.
Turned me into super dick for about 3 weeks but I quit.

Fast forward to 04
My best friend who I punched in the chest at 14 to get him to inhale a cigarette. Also quit about the same time as me, returned from Iraq smoking cigars.
I was scared to try them because I thought one puff and I would be right back to cigarettes.
I gave it a go and I have still not had a cigarette yet. I never get a nic fit either.
Cigarettes are the devil my friend.

Smoking cigarettes hinders the true flavors of cigars. Stop smoking cigs and your cigars will suddenly taste 10 times better. That and the whole death thing is why I quit. YMMV.

I tend to smoke cigs at frats, cigars with friends and family. It usually depends on my state of mind, altered or not. I wouldn't consider myself a frequent cig smoker, I have yet to smoke one by myself.

EDIT: Clarity

I've been smoking a pack to 2 packs a day for about 20 years. I've tried quiting on several occasions. I'm trying to move exclusively to cigars, but it isn't easy. I do find that after I have a cigar, I don't crave a cigarette like I used to. I also leave this site up on my PC all day and if I'm not busy with work, I'm reading posts here, or making shopping lists for cigars. This increases my desire for a cigar after I get off work (I don't like putting them out and lighting them up again, at least not for what I'm smoking right now) and if I have one after work, I generally only have two or three cigarettes for the rest of the night. That is a huge improvement for me. Once I have my stash all in place, I'm quiting cigs cold. I tried Chantix and it was very effective at blocking the nicotine recptors in the brain, I got no high and no enjoyment from cigarettes while I was on it. Sadly I hear it is only really effective once and personal issues and stresses drove me back to it. I'll be trying to quit again soon and I WILL quit them this time.

After smoking a pack a day for 28 yrs, I used Chantix too. Man, the frickin' crazy ass dreams I had on that stuff! But quit I did, for 10 days. Took up cigars and dipping instead
Gave my lungs a chance to recover, my blood pressure dropped to great levels, and most importantly, I can watch other people smoke cigs next to me and not even have any desire to put it to my lips again. Been 2 years already so I'm happy!

I smoke cigarettes and cigars. I have been smoking cigs for around 20 years and cigars casually for a few years now. I like to smoke cigarettes. I don't have a quitting story because I never have tried in earnest. Maybe smoking cigars will change that for me.

I think quitting is tougher for some than others. I only smoked cigarettes for 4 years during college, but once I graduated and was out of the party every night environment, I ended up just quiting cold turkey. There were times when I really wanted one, but resisted. After a few months, cigarettes were just a distant memory. During that time I would smoke a cigar occasionally, but I don't believe it was a substitute for cigarettes because I only enjoyed them about once a month, sometimes 2 months. My wife on the other hand started smoking her sophmore year in college. She has tried to quit 4 times. Once after college. Once when she was pregnant with our son. Once when she was pregnant with our daughter and just about two months ago. Each and every attempt has failed. The longest stretches she was able to manage was when she was pregnant and breast feeding. All I can say from this experience is that it can be a tough habit to kick, even if you really want it. Still...it can be done.
